Steve Jobs passes away.

Yeah, I hear they give those out just about anybody, even folks that they think may deserve them for future performances. I think the idea of the Nobel prize was great, I think all it has become is a political tool.
I tend to agree in regards to the Nobel Prize committee's selection of the winners. Just look at the individual that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. Just my opinion. When he was selected as one of the finalists, he was only in office for a brief time. Boy, does that smell Fishy? I bet that if given the chance, he could create the Universe in less than 6 days. And he probably wouldn't have rested on the 7th day. He would probably spend that 7th day by implementing additional measures to accomplish his personal agenda. Whether conservative or liberal views enter the picture, the Political arena of this Country has reached a point where every politician in either party needs to be scrutinized and researched thoroughly before voters go to the polls.

...Dennis Ritchie died...no fan fare. Google him...he was way more important than Jobs. Apple Fanboys and Fangirls make me giggle...

What makes me giggle is people pulling some name out of the air like Dennis Richie when the Title of the post says Steve Jobs.

So if we're going to play the "pull any name out of the hat involved in computers game" Then I win by choosing theANCIENT GREEKS.

Historical records show that static electricity was already known to the ancient Greeks. In the 6th century BC a Greek named Thales of Miletus discovered that rubbing a fur would make a couple of objects attract one another. This of course let to ELECTRICITY

....The next important chapter in the history of electricity took place at the onset of the Renaissance. The Italian physicist Girolamo Cardano discovered fundamental aspects of electrical power and magnetism. His associate William Gilbert expounded on Cardano痴 theories.

In 1660 Otto von Guericke invented an electrostatic generator. This was the beginning of a new scientific field of study. This device, along with others that followed, revealed a number of things.

The first is that electricity can move across a vacuum. The second is that materials can be divided between insulators and conductors. Finally, it was learned that electricity can be either in positive or negative forms.

The 17th to 19th Centuries

This period was crucial in the history of electricity. First of all, the capacitor was invented. Just as important was the discovery that static electricity could be changed into a current.

It was also around this time that Benjamin Franklin performed his famous experiment with a kite. His experiments about lightning and electricity has been subject to debate, but his contribution to electricity theory cannot be denied.

This was followed by more innovations and inventions, including batteries, cathodes and anodes. Among the most prominent inventors who worked on these aspects were Alessandro Volta, Georg Ohm and Andre Ampere. Just a look at their names indicates the contributions they made to the field.

All which trumps Dennis Richie and Steve Jobs.

See now that really makes me giggle.

I remember when I saw the first iPad come out.

I thought to myself, who in the heck would want one of those?

Now I'm at the point where I don't think it would be a bad idea to own one myself for access to information (smaller than the laptop, bigger than my phone screen).

Heck, it wasn't until last Christmas where I bought my first iPod (Christmas present for the wife).

Got to give credit, Jobs CREATED a market and the others followed.

I'll give anyone $100 if they don't own something that isn't made overseas (needs to be verified of course:D). North Korea? Those people should lucky enough to live in China.

The only sleep I loose over someone dying is someone who I love. Yeah, I think some people can go overboard.

Deification- I don't care for, I don't believe in it.
Respect - sure why not.
Emulation- no I don't like that either.
Bill Gates- successful, but I have no use for him, same as George Bush x 2.
People I respect on an individual basis.

...and batteries...

The romans had a simple steam engine that worked- but did not need it due to the cheap available labor.
