Stick or MIG on thick plate???

What you have is not a spool gun, it is a conventional torch handle. Transit is suggesting that you use a spool gun when you need to be a long distance away from the welding unit. The spool gun has the wire spool and drive motor in the handle so the wire is only pushed a couple of inches , it is commonly used for aluminium welding.
Yes i worked with that concept too in industrial environment, but for me at home, it wasnt worth the extra 500 bucks. With just one extra meter, i get all the freedom i need: I can place the welder on one side of the farm trailer and weld on the other side without hanging in the torch hose.
Though if the spool gun has only 3 meter of hose, it still aint worth it to me.

Hi I am a newbe here
I have been using my little Lincoln Weldpak-100 for some repair here and there it seem to work ok for that. Now I try to build myself a dump trailer which require something more heavy duty weld on frame work. I have look into gettting a new Millermatic211 for little over $1300 but there is one used Millermatic passport plus list on Craiglist for 1/2 price for it's new the guy said he hardly use it.
My question is beside it's portable and such a light way. Does that unit really work as well as the millermatic211? any suggestion or advice would be apreciated. thanks

i bought a 211 late in the summer. it's worked fine for me, and assuming that you aren't trying to do non-stop production work, it should hold up to most anything the average person needs. also, i just checked ebay and you can get it for about $975 shipped. i'd use that to compare against a used price. make sure to add the cost of driving both ways to get it. still, if you can get it for $600+ or so, that seems like a great used price.

some people don't like mail order on stuff like this, but you may also have the option of using that as leverage against your local dealer. you might get them to lower the price. i actually got my 211 for $940 at a local shop.

Thanks lostcuse for the tips

No I do not do welding for living just a little hoby I like homemade stuff something that serve what I need. Dump trailer I am trying to build would be a5x12x2 with 3' drop down tail gate it's narrow enought to go through some gates and yet long enough for haul a small tractor. Thickness of materials to do this project would just right within mig211 can do I had price out two local shop here and both would sell for $1100+tx I will do more shopping before my trailerplan arrive.
Thanks again
Merry Xmas

Hi: I have just about abandoned my stick welder since I got my Miller 251 MIG welder. The 251 will weld 1/2' with ease and leaves no slag. I hate slag.

The Miller 251 made a decent welder out of me. I realize that there are some times when you have to use a stick welder. But most of the time you can use a MIG. Lift is so much easier with a MIG.
