Sticking throttle on 1920

Went to start the 1920 this a.m. and would start and die. I tried throttling up and when it caught the rpms were at 2200. Shut it down and I thought the throttle cable was sticking but it was actually the throttle (on the motor). I sprayed it with WD40 and it returned to normal idle. It is kind of hard to see the throttle so I'm wondering if I need to do anything else. It is a 2000 model with 362 hours on it and has been parked outside since April (long story). Open the hood; remove the side engine cover. Set the hand throttle at idle, spray the throttle shaft where it enters the injection pump with your favorite penetrant. Work the throttle shaft/lever from idle to full throttle briskly until the return spring positively returns the shaft to the idle position. Repeat spraying during the process. You should be good to go.

Thanks Rick, I sprayed it some more with WD-40 and it seems to be back to normal. Test will be after I'm released from blizzard coverage at the fire station. Thanks again, Bill C

WD40 or Release All is fine. Just don't use Fluid Film or similar stuff. That will gum the cable or the throttle right up. Been there done that including the in-laws. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
