Hate to be the 'black' sheep here, but my Stihl dealer 'deals' with me. Has on the trimmers, pole saw, and chain saw. There is a 'Stihl' dealer a bit further away, who will stick to the 'retail' price and throw things in, but I only 'look' there. Someday, if my present dealer retires, I may have to go there, but in the meantime I am fortunate to have a good dealer and one who 'knows' how to tune and fix a saw.
I don't see where Stihl forces him to stick to a price.
Stihl however restricts any dealer from selling over the internet.
I don't blame dealers for sticking to their price. Stihl saws sell themselves, IMO. But I think it is up to the customer to get to know the dealer (not just the salesman), and walking in with a pre-conceived notion that one is 'owed' a better deal than paying retail, is not likely to work.
