Stihl Trimmer = Poor Man's Sickle Bar?

Spoke to the dealer yesterday - Stihl Kombi with the "Power Scythe" attachment, which is designed for what I want and should not tangle up like the hedge trimmer option. Sealed gear box so you can cut cattails under water without issue.

Trying to see if I can get a unit to demo.

Let us know how it turned out I was thinking about getting one to cut some hay.

I used one at our church once and it worked great on grass.

I have a echo trimmer and have thought about getting one for it.

Well, reading through this I think I just learned why the power scythe for the Stihl Kombi powerheads is shorter than the adjustable hedge trimmer one. I've used the adjustable hedge trimmer as a grass scythe a few times on a my KM130 to good effect, but it was all lighter grass so the 20" cutting bar length probably didn't cause too many issues. Since it looks like the power scythe has a 10" cutting bar I'm guessing that's to better handle thicker stems/blades of grass/ground cover.

Stihl Trimmer = Poor Man's Sickle Bar?<<<<<< No No and No, Stihl is the most expensive brand out there, Echo is the poor man's choice. Stilh is good for those that can afford it because it has a few accessory's that can be added on for different jobs.

I'll tell you what, I just purchased a new Echo trimmer and I am impressed with how is runs and the head with the push in string works great. I went to the Stihl and Husqvarna dealers and they were fresh out of what I was looking for and I'm glad they were.

My local Echo dealer gets pretty close to the other two in pricing so I wouldn't say they are cheap though. It won't be long before they have a hold on the saw market seeing they are half the price of similar top handle saws.

I have a Craftsman walk behind trimmer just like the one in this video. It must be 20 years old or older. Still walks right through tall grass and weeds. The big wheel walk behind requires very little effort to operate.

My daughter was needing a trimmer and I found one in a trash pile by the road the other day. It was a small straight shaft Craftsman/Troy-Bilt that had a leaky fuel line and the trimmer head was missing the center part. I ordered a new tank for it for $12.52 shipped. I drilled out the holes on the trimmer head shell and fed some of the .155" line from my walk behind through it. I had to snip the line shorter than it normally took so it wouldn't bog the engine. I have a hill I made for my granddaughter to ride her bike over that the grass had grown waste high on. I took that trimmer out with the heavy line and mowed the whole hill. Wasn't easy on the ol body but the trimmer cut right through the heavy grass with the large trimmer line.
