The fact that your hyd oil was frothed and that the FEL works normally with the 3 point lowered below max makes me believe your 3 point control linkage might be misadjusted. If your control lever is calling for more raise after the lift has reached it's physical limits the system will reach max pressure and the pressure relief will dump the oil back in the sump. This will over heat the oil and cause sluggish operation. I think for the health of your hydraulic system you should limit the control so you can't place it in in this stressed position.

Keep in mind that I'm shootin' from the hip here because I know nothing about a Mitsu. tractor. Without tearing into the internal adjustments (if they are internal), consider placing a stop in the quadrant on the raise side of the control lever below the point that slows your FEL.

With your engine at idle, you should be able to hear the engine load up when your maxed out three point loads your pump to the point that the relief valve cuts in. That is, if this whole theory is correct. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think Gene's got it. The relief valve opens on my Yanmar when the 3 pt hit's the top of it's travel........makes a heck of a noise too, so I drop it back a bit and things work fine......

A buddy of mine has a Yanmar and says his has the same issue. I've look 'till I'm crosseyed, but I can't find a stop adjustment on my lift lever. I'll fabricate something.
