The fact that your hyd oil was frothed and that the FEL works normally with the 3 point lowered below max makes me believe your 3 point control linkage might be misadjusted. If your control lever is calling for more raise after the lift has reached it's physical limits the system will reach max pressure and the pressure relief will dump the oil back in the sump. This will over heat the oil and cause sluggish operation. I think for the health of your hydraulic system you should limit the control so you can't place it in in this stressed position.
