Yes, you could use a cheap universal clear plastic fuel filters (you could put two off them in-line if you want) as a temporary setup just to get it running.

In a pinch I had a similar problem...
My quick fix was to shorten and bend the two wire keepers to hold the shorter bowl...
Don't know it this would work for you or if feasible?
