The killer for switching tires is you also have to switch rims. R1s and R4s don't come in the same sizes so rim switch is mandatory.

In today's economy used tractors are plentiful. There are a lot of people making payments on tractors they didn't need in the first place and wanting a way out.

The only way I'd buy new is if I needed financed. I don't even put much value on warranty. As I said above, there are a LOT of tractors sitting around that have not been worked anywhere near their potential so have a LOT of life left in them with no expected repairs.

When I bought my B2910 used with 300 hours for $9900 it had never used the 3pt or rear drawbar. All it's life it had just mowed the lawn. Not even any scratches.

That brings me to the next point, if I understand correctly you only have 3 acres to maintain?? I'm not sure you can justify an L series. Especially since you said one of your concerns was mowing your lawn with R1s? My used 2910 for $9900 would have taken care of any task you might have.

So since you are discussing this, you need to look closely at your actual needs versus your wants. We've all had that reality check with ourselves!!! :)

I thought the rims weren't compatible...thanks for confirming.

I'm with you on the desire to buy used (that's why I've been reluctant on the l3700) but it's tough to both find a good used tractor where I am and then be the first to jump on it.

I have about a dozen acres total. The 3 mowed acres are the lightest of duties. I will also be regrading the lawn, digging post holes, bush hogging, maintaining and plowing 350ft stone driveway.

Well little to no experience here, but just got a 3700 and worth it's weight in gold so far. That being said, getting a z for the mowing by the house and fences, as with the rear attach, it's just kinda cumbersome and not worth messing up the Cypress fences. If the other duties are rare use, maybe another is better, but if they're regular and the lawn is a portion, i'd say 3700. But keep in mind, it's not a Z, F or even BX in The tight stuff. 2800 vs 3700, it's your budget. I wanted to know it'd been babied it's whole life, and honestly here craiglist is kinda bare (unless you count the scammers).

Just my thoughts on ownership of tractors.

I would think that for the three acres of lawn(that Your installing)it could be made so even a 72" zero turn could work!

Tallk about used bargins for commercial 72" mowers!

So then basically when you got through cleaning the yard and the fence was in as well as the lawn that the majority of the total of the tractor duties would be for cleaning the 350 ft driveway!! Front Blower? There is the option of loader on the front rear blower! Controls would be needed. hydraulic is optimum! Want to have at remote on the rear! Quick attach front bucket is a must.

That would mean the highest amount of hours in a year for the tractor might be accumulated clearing snow. The winter is the roughest season to use a tractor just like a car or truck. To be buying used is not a bad idea as long as you find the right model and the attachments for the long run.

I'd say once the big work is done for the life of the property it could be run on a big B kubota and you also could get the factory cab. Even the bulk of the bigger chores could just give you more stick time then on a larger machine!! If you do get over whelmed just rent a excavator for a weekend!

This tractor would also take a 72" mid mower to supplement the zero turn but you could make it so this could do the mowing as well. I don't know what you have for storage or if that might be another use of the tractor but in your country you want to make sure that the different attachments be able to be reached if needed.

I have seen this work with the big B's before as well as larger getting into a Grand L, but for all the season changes I'd like the cab, as well as the proper storage. The other part of it and the most important is, do you consider it a job ir is it fun? For you to take it as a job go big as possible so it doesn't take long. For those that think that it is fun, finding out how to get the most out out of it giving you more stick time!!!!

I bought my used B2910 while in Iraq. I saw it listed online in a newspaper. Called the people and told them someone would pick it up the next day. My Sons went and got it. I'm sure if I'd let it sit for a couple days it would have been gone.

A B model Kubota will do all of the things you listed above without even working up a sweat. I carried a 5' brush cutter, medium duty. Also carried a 7' heavy duty blade and a 5' medium duty box blade. Best part about it was I could drop all of that equipment, mount up the mmm which only took a couple minutes and mow my lawn to golf course standards while sipping a cold Beer. Mine was on R4s. Great sized tractor!!!

I had a JD455 and my B2910 at the same time. I mowed with both and did tractor chores with the B. I lost both tractors when my shop burned. See pictures.

So I replaced the JD455 with a JD2210 for mowing chores and light tractor duty such as toting in firewood, blading snow, etc. I replaced the B with a L4400 w/FEL to do bigger tractor chores such brush cutting, loader work, etc.

Just my 2 bits here. If you are decided on that frame size of tractor get as much hp as possible. You will never regret the extra hp but if you get the less hp there will be the day you wish you had more. Also live pto with a gear tranny is a must. With hst no big deal.
Power to weight is a big issue with these tractors. I would think the L2800 would seem under powered for the weight.
I have a L3130 and for the weight it is under powered. ( I did not follow my own advice). I do mostly loader work so not a big deal.:D
