Stockpiling diesel

Rather than just keep adding stuff to my bulk tanks and still not knowing what's what. I take samples and put them in my chest freezer and fridge freezer (not as cold) . No more wondering.

I do like adding something for lubricity though.

I have little doubt that there might come a day when the Military might seize your bulk fuel as they conduct operations. Yeah, they may give you a receipt.

Nice way to do your diesel, it's a good idea.

As far as getting a receipt if someone is stealing my fuel, I doubt that I would need it or be in a condition to accept it.

I just put the fuel in those little plastic liquor bottles we sometimes get attached to a big bottle here as a promotion. Then put those bottles in a plastic container for extra protection against spillage. Then take the temp of your freezer. I don't know the temperature at which it gells, but if it isn't gelled, I know at what temperature it doesn't.

My point that you missed is storing 6 months worth as a general rule, isnt for everyone.

OP never said it was. It is what he said he wanted to do because of his health concerns.

Actually, this is what the individual I quoted said. He wasnt the OP.

Figure out how much you use and go for a six month supply. For me that's about 40 gallons. I see no reason to have more than that on my place at any one time.

Have a great night.

Don't bet on the price of diesel for more than a few months.

I have been planning on "stocking" up since we bought our place in Mississippi in 2011. So I would have filled a 300 gallon tote at $4/gallon and been sitting on fuel worth $2/gal. As you can see price dropped off in 2014 and hasn't recovered yet. Fracking and politics came in.
OP should probably get a 50 gal drum, a 275 gallon IBC tote and a good pump system. Fill the 50 and be prepared to fill the tote IF price looks like it is going to jump.

What's the price going to do if we do move to electric cars?

We won't move to electric cars like the gov't plans in ten years. The "Battery Fairy" is still out. We'll starve before ... Note the amount of diesel Haydude uses. He's not the only farmer. Energy decisions are being made by people living in cities. Far from the realities of food production, construction, transportation, energy production, etc. Wasn't long ago I read on an internet forum, we should use car batteries for energy. Shows the level of technology understanding of some voters.

^^ And no where in there does it say a general rule that should apply to everyone. It specifically addressed one user, new to using diesel and projecting he would use a small quantity over time.

A fool (these days) would only have enough food in their freezer or pantry for a few weeks. Just sayin.

All depends on how much you have to, and are allowed to store.

Short of violence to another. My views on what I am "allowed" to do has always depended more on my own notion of self preservation. Politicians (I pay to keep them alive) were never meant to do anything else than serve me. Not dictate to me.

Unfortunately, it actually works exactly the opposite way.
They DO dictate to you, and they DO NOT serve you!
