Well i got it wrong about the Police. They are on the case and showing some interest. I had one officer stop by while I was mowing and another call me later. They want as good a description as I can come up with. I had the feeling that they were going to work on it. It seems like there is a mini crime wave in our area. Apparently anything that is metal and isn't nailed down is disappearing.

I did paint the house number on everything big enough to paint in lime green paint till I can find time to take it to the junk yard.

I also mounted a dummy camera up high on the corner of the barn. I has a fairly bright blinking red light. Now I need some kind of sign. I figured it can't hurt till my Sister in law figures out what she wants to do about security.

We were looking at getting a mini-split system, I want it mounted higher on the house to help deter copper thieves. My neighbor got hit by some copper "heads". I think they caught them though when they were breaking into a sherrifs house and he came home and caught them red handed. They also caught one of my students, his mom, and her boyfriend breaking into houses and steating things to get their fix.

hmm....amazed to hear of such widespread scrap stealing....am going to have to put my game camera up as a watch dog...nothing to watch except all my usable equipment, tractor, etc.... it's heavy, but sounds like that's what brings the money. At our local scrap yards, they take DL number, but don't think they are paid to be cops and refuse whatever people bring in.

Wow, why would they steal that and then ruin it??? :confused3:

Maybe keeping it until everybody has forgotten about it, then dig up the rusting hulk and take it to the scrap yard.

Hey dad, we stole new tractor. You did WHAT? How are we going to fence something that big? Lets bury it until this all blows over, then we can scrap it.

Trail cameras at wal Mart cost about a hundred bucks. They take great pictures and run off batteries

I agree about the trail cameras. I would also check with the local scrap yards. I know that the ones near us have installed cameras that record every load at the scales, so they may have a camera, and if they won't share it with you, they should with the police. We had two empty houses down the road from where we lived before we bought our house 4 years ago. Copper thieves broke in, and took all of the pipes with the water turned on, and they two basements flooded to the window wells with water. Amazing what criminals will do. We have also had thieves take cemetery grave markers. Thankfully the scrap yards turned them in, so they spent a few days in jail, until the courts released them to do it all over again.

Wait a minute? You have people coming on your property and you want to use a fake camera?

The most certainly will come back because 1) they got away with it, and 2) they are now familiar with your property.

A blinky light will not stop anyone with the huevos to spend an hour on your property STEALING.

I was thinking about replacing the rotted wood gate with a steel gate until I read about the thieves stealing the gate. That would make you feel bad.
