STOLEN TRACTOR ALERT

according to our local paper there has been a rash of thefts here. One farm had a tractor and round baler stolen, along with a bunch of seed corn. A dealer had a MOCO stolen, and another dealer across the road had a rake stolen. Also livestock is disappearing.

I sold security, camera, and access control systems for 7 years. What I use to tell people is: it doesn't matter who you are, where you are, what you have, they will find you. :2cents:

By the descripton of items stolen, looks like some one is setting up a farm operation. Problem is many items disapear in a large freight container and Off to eastern Europe, as tactors are not licenced even here how to heck could you track one?:confused2:

The thoughts about video are right on. Look for IP based video systems that have a motion detection setting built into the camera or software. They will be able to detect movement (you can set how much movement to trigger it) and it will email you a photo to your phone, email, etc... Then you can decide to call the local police if needed. You would also have the ability to log into your system at that point and control the camera (Depending on what you bought), Pan tilt, zoom (PTZ), and take a short video clip remotely - there are a LOT of options out there and it is not too expensive (Not compared to deductibles and the hassles)
Good luck and if you have any questions just PM me

have an appt tomorrow with a company that does these. The owner was in buying a box blade this weekend. she told me some great stories on how they used the cameras to catch crooks and stopped thier break ins (they do home theater and steros so a prime target). They had one video that by thier description, should have been sent to one of those dumb crook shows, smashed the glass door, came in a loaded up on equipment, ran out the door but hit their head on teh push bar, merchandise flying, crook out cold a few moments, then up and ran (blood all over from scalp laceration) clear picture of license plate both backing up to the door and leaving. arrested the next morning. Looking forward to similar. I thought about lo jacks on some units but hard to tell which one they will steal. Booby traps unfortunately come with some goofly legal ramifiactions, plus our weekend shoppers might get an unwelcome surprise as the lot is open, just has a low pipe fence around to prevent theft (padlocks only keep honest people honest, assuming the chicken SxxTs that stole the tractor were not honest before they cut the lock, if they were the padlocks served no purpose at all).

Chip...I stopped by to visit today while you were out making a delivery. I saw an empty spot next to the DK40 where I assume the stolen DK45 sat. Man, that DK45 with cab and FEL is the tractor I would like to have. If I had bought it last week it wouldn't have been stolen...sorry about that.

Any work from the police about recovery?

We have an IR illuminated camera at work and it is amazing what it can pickup even in (apparent) complete darkness. Might be worth looking into setting up some IR illuminators and IR cameras to cover the entrances/exits.

Some of those cameras are PTZ capable and can be set to send an email if there is motion on the camera...

Pay the cost of your increased insurance, pay the cost of the lost equipment, then stake them down on the dirt and drive over them with each peice of equipment they stole.
Horse(power) theives aren't worth the price of a shell; and blood hoses off easily if you don't let it dry.
