Stolen truck

New guy here. I looked for a 7.3 for a long time in the San Antonio and Austin area. After many months I have given up on it. I DID however find that the cleanest trucks seem to end up on ebay. If you're willing to travel and pay the premium, you can find a really nice truck. It won't be the one you had with all of your mods, but it won't be ragged out either.

I know how you feel. It wasn't stolen, but I had a very clean, well maintained, one owner expedition that some dummy totalled by hitting me. The insurance company he had was my same company and they lowballed me pretty badly. I fought them pretty hard and gave them the comps they asked for. I reasoned with them on how clean my car was. I showed them evidence of mx records other owners didn't usually do. I was very specific and had good information to back up my claim that they were 3 or 4 thousand short but they still refused to come up to a reasonable settlement. Most of their comps were from 2wd grocery getters that were nothing like my truck. Still irritates me to no end...

After that I decided I would drive old no-value cars from here on out. I know that's not what you want, but for me, getting hosed on a 10-15 year old pristine one owner car is something I don't want to do again.

Just got a call that it was recovered. Sounds like they tore it up but at least I'll get it back. Don't know about the contents yet.

Wow. Congrats! Good news....I hope. :)

That's a great first step... maybe there is enough evidence to prosecute... not many have video of the crime.

I'll keep a good thought that the body and mechanicals are OK... maybe they wanted the spray rig?

Sadly up here in Canada, especially on the coasts, most stolen vehicles end up in containers and then overseas. police say stolen cars can literally be on board the vessel within hours of the theft. Google shipping stolen cars, it will scare you.

It's in Hempstead, 21 miles away. They found it abandoned in an Exxon with the windows and the steering column broken. I don't know about the contents or any details on the condition of the truck beyond that yet. The storage lot it's at isn't answering their phone. I may drive out there today to see if I can tell anything or just deal with it in the morning. Right now, I don't know if its drivable or if I'm going to need a wrecker.

Hempstead PD just called so I got to talk to the officer that found it. The spray rig is gone and from what he was saying I think also the stereo stuff. Dash is pulled apart as well. He said that he thinks the window was rolled down, not broken, so that would be a plus. And, I think my snake boots are still in it, which would be awesome. I don't want to break in another pair.

If there is anyway to get it today... I would.

Things can go from bad to worse overnight.

Too bad about the spray rig... it is probably harder to trace...
