Does anyone have experience with effective stone pickers?

Brand names? Rockhound, PFM, Degelman?

I'm in Ontario, and have fields full of rocks.

Any recommendations for a 32HP tractor?

Thanks,
Peter

There was someone that built a homemade one and pulled it will a small John Deere but I cant remember who it was. Maybe someone will remember or the person that built it will chime in.

I to would like to get a rock picker or at least rent one some day as I got around 8-10 acres of rocks I want gone.

Glenmac the people who made the original Harley rake were also in the business of beach cleaners and stone pickers. They sold out to 2 different companies I believe. Some of the stoen pickers remain at one of them. See Beachcleaners, Beach Cleaners, Sand Cleaners, Rock Picker, Stone Pickers, Beach Rake

Thanks Andy. I called them, their 740XL model is around $23K :)
I'm sure it would do a fine job, but I'm looking for something between
$4-$8K.

Spending 20K+ on a rock picker only makes sense if you go into "rock picking"
business.

I watched a rockhound on a bobcat T300 for an hour or two preparing a seedbed on a right of way and thought it was very effective. The ground here is very rocky and this machine really cleared the surface of rocks and other debris. The utility Co. was seeding with grass and clover.:)
I believe they manufacture a unit for a 3 Pt. hitch but I'm not familiar with it.

Kids....thats why you have KIDS.....

They make great stone pickers and whiners at the same time!

Apart from the kids idea (my personal favourite), can you sift the soil for the rocks or is it really hardpacked or sodded? If it's tilled farmland, try a rock bucket. Something like one of these S. Houle ones. Their BB series works on lightweight tractors and skidsteers.

BB - Bucket

Horst Welding is Canadian as well and their stone fork is here- HORST WELDING | HLA >> STONE FORK ( RETAINER STYLE TINES)

The S. Houle 4' one is over a hundred pounds lighter than their 5' model and the 5' Horst stone fork.

Are you just trying to get the surface rocks? The Rockhound site has a video... seems to do a pretty smooth job... but they also don't show it going through a really rocky field... or going very deep.

RockHound Rake

Might be able to rent one on a skidsteer locally to try it out.

I was going to suggest a good dump fork;), been on the handel many times picking rock, made the mistake of letting a neighbor chisel plow 30 acres for us years ago, took us 3 weeks to clean the rocks off:mad:
