Those prices are nasty but their Saab's, Baby Beamers and Benz's, Volvo's and such don't burn 1/2 the fuel our trucks do. Throw in our long commutes, farm equipment... I'll be we still spend more $ over a 1 year period.

A lot of countries prices are Taxes. Saw a table once, we pay much lower taxes on our gas than countries in europe. and from the way the prices are going it must be a percentage tax as opposed to a flat rate tax.

Our local TV reported last night that Venezuela gas price $0.12 per gal.

how do these prices relate to earning power of the average citizen.I do know that acreage in europe is valued astronomically higher than here and I was wondering just what do people earn in order to pay for what they need to have? btw locally gas hit 1.05 a litre or something in the neighborhood of 4.50 or more a gallon.

I saw that on the news too. Very easy to misinform people with those numbers.

Gas tax is a huge portion. Imagine if the gas tax had to fund 100% of our roads, it would be higher.

Also the local economy. If you only make 3$ per day in Venezuela then that 0.12$ is a big deal.

For the rate of inflation...

I remember when gas was .56/gallon I "think" back in the late 70's. Ok, we're at 2.50 or so (in my area).

Although I don't like the price of gas now, overall, considering the rate of inflation on other products, we are not that "bad".

Now, what the "gas companies" are actually "making" I have no clue, but the sorry fact is that they have us ************** and I have to pay what they charge /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hey SigArms,

I 2nd that emotion.

Also the fact, that American's as a whole, do not try very hard to conserve, when it comes to Gasoline usage. Quick starts and hard Stops, One or 2 people riding in a very large vehicle with a very large displacement engine.

The market is determined by the buyers. The buyers want big, so the suppliers, supply big. The Gas Producers say, Why should we try to hold the price down, when the buyers/users, don't seem to care one way or the other, about how much gas they are wasting and using.

Just my 1 1/2 cents.

That is a good part of the Gas price. When we cut back on our usage the price will drop. but have you noticed that it never drops as fast as it goes up?
