Chicken pot-pie is one of those things that doesn't take a gourmet cook to make. The store-bought crusts(Pilsbury) are hard to improve upon. Some left-over roasted chick, a can(10.5oz) of mixed veges and some chicken gravy(good chicken stock thickened with a roux of flour and butter). Very easy to make from scratch using the Sandra Lee philophy (semi-homemade). Can also be done using ground beef/beef gravy. Haven't bought a store bought one in ages.

Turkey pot pie after Thanksgiving is really good, too. ;)

My wife makes a darn good chicken pot pie...but KFC has a real good one too. Surely ya'll got KFC up in Maine :D
Believe it or not, kfc had been my initial plan but for some reason the kfc i visited did not carry them. i should have asked if they were just out of stock or not bothering to carry them at all anymore. the impression that i got from their response was that they no longer were going to have them at all. they were not listed on the driveup menu.

Well, you didn't say you needed it quick...

I bet they would ship it to you frozen. Tell you what, I'll go get the pies, I drive by the place every day, and send them to you, say 10 pounds worth, and you send me Maine Lobster, 10 pounds worth. Even Steven. Wadda ya say?:)
Ha! you must think i am a very rich (and foolish) man.

I do not disagree with you steve, but i am an awful chef. a non-chef. that's why i am usually assigned to bring the salads or desserts. they know i can't screw it up. all i have to do is visit a super market, deli or bakery and not drop it in the street. as mentioned above, i was relying on my ability to buy from a place like kfc but they let me down. that option gone, i went with mrs budd from the refrigerated section but it was awful. what a big mistake.

Do you have a cafeteria near you? Sometimes they will make things for people to buy to eat at home....

Sounds like you dug yourself a deep hole. :D:D:D

Maybe there is a professional chef in the phone book that can help out? Know someones Mom or Grandma? :)

I think to fill up the hole you dug you might have to spend some dollars. :) Sounds like you need to bring in the big guns.:D

Good Luck!

Now don't go getting me in trouble with the moderators. i like to keep my nose clean and follow the rules but i need some serious help here. there has got to be a reasonably pain free way out of my dilemma. just got to figure out who makes the best product out there and bring it next time. after that, never again except for salads and desserts. i promise.

Do you have Cracker Barrel restaurants near you? Their Chicken Pot Pies are pretty good - don't know if you can get them "to go" though.....
