Store-bought chicken pot pie?

Not a troll my skeptical friend. please go back and re-read my original post and see what I asked for and why. i believe i was very specific in asking about store- or restaurant-bought products. recipes are wonderful things, but not for a man who doesn't cook. that's why i didn't ask for one and it certainly doesn't make me a troll.

Trolls like Chicken Pot Pie anyways don't they. I mentioned how good my wife's chicken pot pies were and I've referred to her as a troll many a time (for laughs of course, can't have her holding back cooking and stuff on me). She loves them things too :D

Any way, a tractor forum troll would be bashing tractor owners or something woodn't he? Theo jes wants a ready made CPP ;)

Yep, a Troll on Tractor By Net would say that the only GOOD and GREAT Tractors are the ones made by John Deere.:D

That's not surprising for someone who doesn't do casseroles.:D But chicken (or turkey) a la king is one of my favorite ways to use left over chicken or turkey. You simply chop up the meat in bite size or smaller pieces (boned, of course), make a sauce or gravy with a little flour, a little broth, a little milk, a little butter, some salt & pepper, add a can of mushroom bits & pieces (or chop your own), and a jar of chopped pimentos, add the meat, heat and serve on toast. Delicious.

Of course you can just buy a can of chicken a la king at the supermarket where the soups are, open a can, heat and serve, but it just isn't as good as what I make at home.:)

Bird- Ohhhh so that is what Chicken a la King is. It doesn't sound bad, it sounds okay. I do like chipped beef on toast. I'll tell you what. I plan on making chicken tomorrow and ususally there is some leftovers. I'll make for a follow up chicken a la king for my hsuband and then report back if he ate it or not. It is very very difficult for me to make the meal without vetting it with my husband first. I used to resent this when I was younger but I have learned to live with his need to know exactly what I'm making and how I'm making it. This is a dish I'll have to make ont he sly as I know if I ask first he will turn it down. I don't want anybody to get the idea that he is a control freak and I'm this submissive little woman, he isn't and I'm not. But about his food he is a control freak. One thing I would like to try more of is Indian food some curry etc. different spices but that will never happen. He will do Asian but not Indian go figure.

Well I'm on a mission now I'm going to try to sneak some chicken a la king on him and see if he eats it or not. The only problme is tomorrow we will be working together all day in the same field so I'll be scheming how I can sneak this meal in... he-he-he.

Theo,

This suggestion is similar to the one about cafeterias, but perhaps it might work. There's a HyVee supermarket here that has a "cafeteria" area. It's divided up into Chinese, pizza/pasta and something like "American" food areas. I'd be willing to bet they have chicken pot pie on the "American" menu sometimes, and would probably be willing to make a whole one available, since they also cater.

I can't remember ever seeing a family sized frozen chicken pot pie. The largest I can recall were the Marie Callendar ones, and they were too small for what I imagine you need. I wonder if a normal caterer might consider a one-dish job.

There are refrigerated store brands at a couple of the super markets. as i mentioned above, i am starting to make myself sick trying all these different brands every other day, but as i also mentioned: this is now a mission. I will eventually get to them all or die trying. the caterer idea is really a last resort as it is kind of like accepting defeat. it may be the best i can do quality-wise, but i fear it would lead to more trouble, not less. i'd be the first member ever to employ a caterer for what really amounts to an informal potluck dinner.

You guys are too funny. honest to god, i didn't intend to start a long thread and be accused of trollism. i didn't take it off topic. and this is a related topics category anyway. i just wanted to solve my little problem and not have to join some cooking forum somewhere to do it.

Hey....since your friends already know you are not going to be cooking the CPP yourself, why not turn this into a bought-CPP-tasting party? Buy as many CPPs as you can find/afford, and set them all out for tasting. You might be performing a real service. Everyone has times they just can't make their own meals, and this might be a way to discover which CPP folks like.

Reminds me of the time I invited my brother to a wine-tasting party SWMBO was throwing. He brought Boones Farm. It was a hit. Ah, the 80s.

Just an idea, but if you were to supply and serve several courses of aperitifs before the meal, they might all agree that any cpp was great!;):):)

I'm starting to agree with micropilot that this thread is near out of control and i almost regret starting it. don't want to be ticking folks off after all. the bad news is that i found some chicken pies that were very high in taste and quality but did not contain any vegetables at all (hence chicken pie vs chicken pot pie). the good news is that i'm getting close to a decision after a couple of real good recommendations from a friends wife and the simple fact that i am running out of options. interesting point i found out that kfc does not sell chicken pot pies during the summer so that explains that little surprise. oh well live and learn.

Who says you have to tell them a caterer did the work? :D

You are not bothering anyone with the thread. Its a good one. I wanna see how this turns out for you and if Rox can manage to surprise the French Chief Hubby. :D

Oh, they would figure out quickly if I went to a caterer. and i sure don't want to get caught cheating with this tough crowd. but i must say that i was taken aback when i learned that chicken pie (no vegetables) is considered the upscale gourmet approach whereas chicken pot pie is considered the poor persons meal. never knew that. maybe that was my mistake all along. i should have asked if i could substitute chicken pie for chicken pot pie. maybe could have saved myself all this embarrassment.
