This pile is 5 yrs old and about the same size as yours. I never use the weed wacker on it but I do spot treat it with 2-4D occasionally. It was a bigger (longer) pile but I get into it when needed.
With the bucket level at the base of the pile, I drive the bucket about 4" into the base and raise the bucket while driving forward at the same time. I am trying to remove the grass and a few inches of soil. The bucket of grass gets dumped on top of the pile, leaving me a clean spot to get a few buckets of soil for my use.
Mother nature will heal the spot soon enough to stop any erosion.
