The land I purchased in Texas had Krum - silty clay. Drainage is very good and the soil dries out a little too fast for some things we intend to do... but, regarding storage of the tractor and implements and given the soil, would some good .80 (or higher) treated 6x6 lumber be fine in the ground with 10" of 1/2" stone in the wells and compacted with coarse gravel?
I see a lot of people fussing with getting poles in the ground and squared up and understand what they are doing, however, wouldn't it be easier to auger the adequate holes, put your base stone in, stand up the poles and put your base banding on, square corner to corner and compact the corners in place? Once done, the poles in the spans can be shimmied and compacted. I've seen it done this way and though it saved a ton of measuring and fussing with the placement. The base bands will hold the posts in place against your strings... does that make sense?
We're looking at a few different metal buildings here but the one I quoted above seems to be the best deal going. I have to call another person about the concrete. My first choice isn't getting good reviews from prior customers I've found. If all goes well, I'll have the driveway, equipment barn and a well drilled by the end of the year.
