Man we've had a lot a rain lately. More than 13 inches in two weeks but nothing like 2 years ago when we were struck hard by hurricane Irene here in Vermont. The flooding was spectacular (if the that's proper description!). Stream and rivers became torrents and all major access for transport was closed off for days and even for weeks in some places. There was virtually no way to get across the southern part of state or even out to neighboring states. National guard was called out and convoys of utility crews came down from Maine to help reestablish infrastructure.

Since then all the bridges and most of the roads have been repaired but the damage to private homes and local businesses has been irreplaceable. And many houses washed away. In the little vacation town where I work all summer the high water line on the police station at the one stoplight intersection were two local rivers converge is now a new historic landmark. More than halfway up a first floor double hung window. One of the stories folks like to mention was seeing a 40 yard roll off trash container float by on the flood waters current. It was found like 11 miles away several months later.

Obviously natural disaster seem to be in the news more often than not these days. Anybody else have any local stories they like to share?
