My Kubota dealer filled my tires with pure water.

can do both wheels in the time it takes to do 1 with a drill pump and purge method.

Its a little harder but way less time.

I don't/wouldn't/couldn't believe that for a half of a half second... not on anything i've got parked at my house anyway.

maybee one of them new rice burner's with tires that come up only to your mid thigh or something that looks like a car tire with lugs.. etc..

I can drill pump in a couple gallons of af into a tire in less time than I can drag the pry bars out of the barn.. let alone taking some old behemoth tire off the center, or center off the hub.. and THEN bust it down.

In any case.. I have all tube tires.. so pulling one down to bust it open would just be an exercise in tool play, as I'd have to mount it back up and THEN fill it.

once you have ballast in, the rest is just garden hose and burp valve.... let your well pump do the work instead of beaitng on a 250#-500# tire trying to manhandle it arouind onto a tractor.. not my idea of fun or easy.. or fast, especially if you want to be safe.

next time I want to load a set of 16.9-24's and some 14.9-28's, I'll call ya, and you can roll them big suckers around. they are heavy enough EMPTY to barely be able to be moved. the 14.9's are worse as thay are PA rims and centers are a pita to remove.. so you leave them in there.

come to think of it.. I'll call ya on the 34" and 38" rubber as well..

I'm not gonna get off topic and argue. You do it your way I'll do it mine. I surely dont have the experience you do. The last set was 14.-30 if you want to know and took less than 2 hours for both sides and we even switched sides while we were doing it.

I don't wish to argue either.. I'm just a fan of working smarter, not harder.

since the bulk of the time of filling a tire is jus tletting the hose run and hitting hte burk button now and then, loading a set of tires, for me, is easy.

jack stand underthe axle, remove stem core, hookup drill pump and ballast jug, let drill do it's think while I walk away and get the next jug ready, and drag the water hose out and burp adapter.. usually after a minute or two the jug is ready to be changed over..in florida I only mix 2g or so of af into a tire..and call it good.. from ther eit's garden hose and yer well pump or water service doiung the work... burpin every few minutes.. a 16.9-24 hold another 59g of water.. so.. that tells you how long it takes to fill, based on your water service.

after that.. stuff a core in, and hit it with air till it lifts off the jack stand like it had been before deflated, and it's good.

while one sid eis filling with water.. do the toehr side with the drill pump.

only about 5 minutes of actual work involved in the whole deal.. rest is just keeping an eye on it while the water hose fills the tire. can actually do some other good usefull stuff in that time..

by the end of this.. I think it took me 30m to do both tires. the heaviese thing I lifted was a gallong of af and a jack stand.

During that 30m, I got about 20m of other work in my shop done, as it only took about 5m of real work to set this up.. and another 5m lost going back and forth pressing a burp button.

I'll take 10# lifting and 30m job with 20m back as 'change' ballasting a tire -ANY- day vs manhanding a tire casing that weighs 3x my weight.. plus the rims and or center possibly... not to mention if you take the tire off.. then you hav ethe safety risk of it falling over.. on somebody.. etc.. or the tractor falling off a jack to it's side.

hmm.. hard choice. I think I'll take A and not break a swet or strain anything I may still need, vs the brute force / proove/ I'm a man and strong as a bull method ;)

ps.. if that's a 14.9-30 you refer to.. it's a 57g ballast + fill, vs the 61g ballast + fill on a 16.9-24 thus yeilding the same basic weight of water.. 475# vs 509#.. plus the tire casing and rim and center, if you are taking them off or not.

I'll take 30m and no heavy lifting vs 'under 2hrs' and not touching a 800# loaded black rubber mancrusher.. any day. :) if I was younder.. or 6'8 and 300# might be different. at 5'5" and 130# i go for EZ when possible. I have no good paved surface to work on either.. meaning no tire dolley, except for front end loader :)

them 14.9-28's i did a while back are 'small' at only 53g fill each and 442# water.. but the near 1/2" thick sprial PA center and heaqvy rim adds quite a bit...

I added a pic for those interested showing the difference of a 11.2-28 tire vs a 14.9-28 tire.. for reference.. a 11.2 is what you see normally on a ford N or ferguson TX-20 style tractor.. or similar.. mf 35.. etc.. , next pic is my tire dolley.. :) after that is them 16.9-24's

Well I ant going to wrestle a tire when i dont have to. Those bilge or drill pumps are much easier.

Since i am looking at 14gal of AF for 10 degree protection per tire.
I was wondering about getting used antifreeze from slavage yard. Anybody do this?
A simple tester would tell you how strong.
How cruddy is it? Filtering would be a pain.

But should be low cost or free? Plus some sweat.

Interesting idea. If you find a wrecker who will let you work in his yard, I think it should be free. He has to deal with it as an environmental hazard so you're relieving him of some cost. On average, you're going to get 2 gal/car or less, so it will be some effort.

it works. many places here will give it away free.

. I always use the eco friendly PG stuff as I have animals. if that wasn't a concern.. sure.. olld EG af is fine..
