My black and white dachshund sleeps with his tongue sticking out. Both he and my mixed dog sleep under blankets that they learned how to cover themselves.

We have a neighbor who is a real jerk. He told me a tale once about another neighbor who had a Min-Pin that was a screamer. One day as the jerk was leaving to go to town he coaxed the little dog into his pick up and took him to the next town down the road and dumped him out in the parking lot of Lowes, never to be seen again.

Cruelty to your pet is indefensible. Cruelty to someone else’s pet is unforgivable.

There is a special place in h3ll for that guy. Hopefully the dog was picked up and taken in by someone that cared.

So far this year my cat has caught 3 bats. (Don't worry, Australia is rabies free) Tasmania only has 'micro-bats', about the size of a mouse.

The first two occasions I put it down to it being a very stormy, wind gusting, night that the bat been blown into something and stunned itself. The cat brought them inside and got my attention 'cause she'd never seen/caught one before and didn't know what to do with it. I just put on my leather work gloves, picked the critter up and took it outside where it swiftly flew away.

The other night, and calm one with no rain, she brought in another one. Unfortunately it had expired. How she's managing to catch them I have no idea.

Maybe the bat pushed his luck?

It never seems to amaze me what my 10 year old rescue does. I am a morning person and my wife is a night person. I go to bed a couple of hours earlier than she does. I leave the TV on in the bedroom as it helps me to go to sleep. MY dog always goes to her bedroom bed when I go to bed. I say MY as she is a Velcro attached to me. Anyway, after I am asleep for a while last night she comes to the bed and noses me to wake me up. It seems that there was some kind of alarm sounding on a show on the TV. I guess she thought I should know about it in case it was something important. She never pays attention to dogs barking on the TV or other animals howling. Why did the alarm get her attention?

Cheney, WA is a college town. Long ago we had a problem with stray dogs. Called the ASPCA and they got the County Sheriff involved. Bottom line - college kids would bring a puppy with them starting fall quarter. By spring quarter the dog was no longer a little puppy and not near as much fun. They would drive out the county roads and leave this puppy to fend for itself. The ASPCA, County Deputy Sheriff & I had a meeting with the Dean of Students about this concern.

I'm more than pleased to report - it is no longer a problem. For a few years I was getting two to three "stray puppies" every spring. The word is, if the student no longer wants to care for the dog - the parents, or a responsible party, must take the dog and care for it.

Surprisingly - I've been contacted two times my students and have taken in two dogs that they could no longer handle. This works for me and makes me feel a whole lot better. A stray dog out here is simply food for the local coyotes.

Our mini dachshund couldn't resist a folded blanket on the bed.

Set a folded blanket on the bed and that dog had to root through it. He would pull and prod it, flip and flop the blanket around. Tunnel under it to the other side. Fluff it up some more. Then flop on top, smack dab in the middle, and then wiggle around it on his back.

I used to wait till something else caught his attention and he moved off from the blanket. Then I would fold it back up nice and crisp, and place it somewhere else on the bed.

He would start all over till he got it fluffed back up to his liking
