Couric and Jennings combined net worth is (was?) about a fifth of Welch's. Welch's severance was well over 50% of his reported net worth. Yes, I believe that level of compensation is excessive, especially when it is compensation for simply going away, not contributing to the corporate well being.

I am not a fan of excessive compensation, but it is market driven. They are not given these to go away, they are part of how they got hired in the first place and act as an incentive to the next one. CEO jobs are not out there on indeed. Once you get to a high level job, employers often will not hire you for a lower level job. 'overqualified'. That is why those parachutes exist.

This org is known for taking stock positions and then writing puff pieces to boost the price. Or going short and writing a hit piece. I have first hand experience with that.

They disclosed at the end of the piece that they are a shareholder ....

But even school districts are handing them out to superintendents who don’t work out. Ours right now is being paid not to come in his last 6 months or so and an interim super we pay her $700 a DAY to clean up the mess. Now the district is interviewing for the next superintendent. We have been through four in 2 years. Our school board is a mess and micro manage the entire show. This interim super is here for her second round of cleaning up. These people don’t deserve a parachute. They deserve a pack full if cement . And the property tax keeps going to pay off these folks n several law suits
