I broke my but one day at work on one job and my boss said something about not doing my daily log (he actually was working beside me most of the time so he knew what was going on).
So for the next week or so I did it diligently every day in code
It was there but hardly any one could read it.

That method works great as long as you know where that little red hot slag piece will end up. I've had it land in my shoe. Yea, I know, should have had my boots on. But sometimes a small tack job lasts hours! When I can't flick the tip, I just grab the tip of the rod with my gloved fingers and pinch the slag off before I scratch start. Tapping sometimes fractures the flux coating and leads to porosity.

I was wearing shorts one summer and got some of that hot slag on my bare leg. That hurt. I will never wear shorts again. (At least while welding)

Safety tip #2. DO NOT WEAR SANDALS WHILE WELDING OR CUTTING!

It takes three months to heal where slag sticks between the toes. I won't tell how I'd know that.

I have to remind our tech/electronics support guy about that. Every picture of him of him he is welding in sandles and shorts...but he knows better. What can you expect out of South FL?

Those burns are a quick cure for killing athletes fungus.

I'm enjoying this thread.:thumbsup: Reminds me of the many hours spent many years ago in the "welding booth" in vo-tech school. High school days in the late 70's, wearing the old long sleeve, heavy cotton, stripped coveralls. After numerous hours of the daily grind of practicing welding beads in the booth your coveralls get pretty frayed in places from sparks and slag. Our instructor "made" all of us sweaty, stinkin' teenagers take our coveralls home to get them washed once a week. After washing and drying frayed cotton coveralls they seem to be more "kindling" than coveralls and you know what happend next! Wouldn't take long on Mondays to hear someone throwing their stinger down, yelling and beating out the fire that was starting to consume their coveralls!:shocked::shocked::laughing:

You lucked out!
Wait until you have a big red blob of metal go down your shirt, stop at your belt, then pull a bone head move like I have and suck your belly in because it's burning, take a wild guess where it stopped? Go a head take a guess?! Takes months to heal, expansion, contraction is "hard" on an open wound.:laughing:
