To the serious questions, I should have had the rops up, and I never cross slopes, always head or rear first for travel. As for the seat belt, I wear it when I'm in a sketchy situation, but not otherwise. Just being honest in that regard. If I was at risk of tipping into the pond, I would discontinue the activity rather than risk it.

BTW all, somebody had to bring up the AG vs R4 thing! LOL

Well, at least it looks like you had nice, high ground to crawl on to hook it up.

See, there's always a bright side.

I think you should turn on the PTO and get that tiller running. Then tell the neighbors you did this in order to airate the pond.

The rear tires are R4 slicked up with mud! The implement on the back is a box blade pretending to be an anchor. That particular area of the pond is pure sand but I slide so far in that I got into the clay a bit. A pure recipe for stuck if ever there was one.

I had to get a skid steer over because the flat on top of the bank is very short and then the forest starts. The problem we had was the rears of the skid steer would come up off the ground when we tried to pull and we'd lose traction. It took patience, perserverence and two shovels to get her out.

What happened was I like to keep that bit of the bank clear. Every now and again I grade it with a rear blade. This time I went back too far because the box blade is not near as far out behind as the regulat blade. The wheels sank in, the tractor was bottomed out, the blade was embedded. A perfect setup if I do say so myself.

I was fixing to ask what the #@** were you doing backing into the pond like that in the first place, but you answered on you own.

How about buying a load of gravel and spreading it out. This will keep the erosion down and you wont have to blade the ede of your pond, just spray roundup around it to keep the grass and brush down.

Im not so sure about the R1 vs. R4 thing. This is coming from a R1 fan. I have come very close on several occasions where i almost got stuck with my R1 tires on my yanmar. On reason, my R1s are a lot narrower than the R4 tires on similar sized tractors. Thus having that extra ground contact gives you better grip. Now, if i had bigger R1s or even duals on the back, traction would increase. By far, the worst traction situation with my R1s was driving in wet snow. I went down the driveway and was very happy I had the rear blade on plowing 5" of snow, that was the only thing keeping the tractor from becoming a sled. Now for getting back up hill, i put it in High gear and barely made it back up the hill. Will never run that barefoot in wet snow again. i will be getting a set of chains soon. :) Also another word of advice, never try using a rubber track skidsteer on a hill in wet snow. It can get dangerous fast. :(

I have never used the log on the rear tire trick but one day I likely will. Johndeere3720, try turfs on ice if you want a fun ride!! BTW, didn't know you had a cattle dog too! Good stuff.

Ironically, in June I posted the following:

Default Re: First time stuck - almost
I wish I had a picture but the other day I was grading the edge of our pond and the back end of the tractor with blade attached slide down into the water. The edge of the pond is about 30% slope so it was steep. No matter what I did I could not get out. Finally had to get towed.

I do plan on getting stuck more in the future though!

Something similar happened to me a few years ago with my Massey 35. The front wheels got stuck real deep in a mud hole by the sea side. I used a jack and planks, but never managed to get out. The trouble was the tide was coming in and I had not much time left before the tractor was under sea water. After breaking a chain from my bush hog twice (not very strong but it was all we had), the neighbour's big agricultural tractor finally pulled me out in time.

That would have been for a nice picture!!!!
