Stuck partly in pond. 2nd time I've done this

I have never used the log on the rear tire trick but one day I likely will. Johndeere3720, try turfs on ice if you want a fun ride!! BTW, didn't know you had a cattle dog too! Good stuff.

Ironically, in June I posted the following:

Default Re: First time stuck - almost
I wish I had a picture but the other day I was grading the edge of our pond and the back end of the tractor with blade attached slide down into the water. The edge of the pond is about 30% slope so it was steep. No matter what I did I could not get out. Finally had to get towed.

I do plan on getting stuck more in the future though!

Yeah, i have tried all 3 tires on ice before. The R4s didnt slide as much unless i accelerated or stopped fast. But then it can get kinda fun it your bored. Chains sure make a difference. we used chains on the front of the 3720 to plow the wet snow and it never got stuck. Those chains never had a problem. Have you ever tried to load a JD 2210 on a wet wood deck trailer and the R3s are covered in mud? You will just spin out on the wet wood. I heard from a retired city worker that when they loaded the TLB on the tilt trailer in the rain, he would put a chain on each side of the deck where the tread would touch and it will crawl right on up the trailer. Havent got to try it yet but it seems like a good idea. I actually have a red heeler and an australian shepard that are mine. One at each house. At my moms, we have a chihuahua, a blue heeler, my red heeler, and at my dads there are 4 australian shepards and 2 mini australian shepards, one with pups on the way. :confused2:

My father in law used something similar to get our CX80 out of a pond, but used chains on both rear tires and secured them to a LP tank truck. Put diff lock on and walked the tractor out by wrapping the chains around the tires as it pulled itself up and out of the mud.

The fact that the ROPS was not up was pointed out so I feel I must point out the dangers of using a LP truck as an anchor, if things go bad they tend to go bad in a big way. Please never use an LP truck or other haz-mat truck for anything other than transporting and delivering fuel, your local Fire Department will thank you.

I did not mention the ROPS and never feel compelled to lecture others on safety issues that I can remember.

I was not recommending the use of an LP truck as part of the process, just describing the process. I was not there at the time. He owned the company, so that is what he had on hand. In over 50 years in the business, he had no safety incidents, so I didn't feel the need to lecture him. He was also a volunteer Fire Fighter.

The truck was never within 200 feet of the tractor.

Shoot worst case scenario the tractor sparks a fire roll the tractor back into the pond...I had to wonder about using a LP truck as an anchor. Some folks have bigger kahonies than I do driving those kind of rigs.

Note again, I did not/do not advocated using an LP truck. My father in law routinely used LP trucks to pull other stuck LP trucks out as in the spring and winter getting a truck stuck was just a matter of course. Calling a wrecker every time to pull one out every time was just not economically feasible. This continues to be done by the new owners/operators of the business and in the 60+ years in business, there have been no fires or other such occurrences in spite of the fact that several trucks have been rolled and some others involved in traffic collisions. LP in its liquid state is not as volatile as one would think.

AGAIN I am not recommending someone go out and spend $100,000 on an LP tank to get unstuck, I am only offering a manner which works, but it will probably be my last one.

Hey I was just yankin your chain.. Heck if that is what I had available to anchor to I would use it. I called a wrecker when I got tired of digging and couldn't walk the tractor out at all. Now I know my limitations better.

Understood and I apologize.

Not so sure about a group hug but there are a lot of folks on here I would be honored to shake hands with. The collective wisdom on this site is wonderful. And the humor on here cracks me up often..
