Finally had a chance to use the stump grinder and came away pretty pleased. The thing is a beast. Once mounted it reminds me of one of those battling robots.

Went thru the stumps I had with no problems. I also didn't experience the chip throw back that has been mentioned. This could be because with the 24 I'm sitting higher and the machine is blocking it. Seemed to me that the chips were more flying side to side than to the back. Cleanup was no worse than when I use the brush cutter.

I also used it to clear out some sapplings and bushes. If you start the blade at ground level it just wipes them out. I'd guess the biggest I tried it on was around 2" diameter and 6 feet tall. Next up I'm going to try it on fallen trees and see if I can chop thru them like a saw.

My wife said I looked like a deranged maniac running around the woods with this thing. Could be the name of a new movie "The PT Stump Grinder Massacre"!

Were there any instructions on how to use the stump grinder? There seems to be a difference of opinion on how to grind down a stump. Did you start cutting on the front part of the stump or the backside? Do you think you will reverse the blades. Looking at the stump grinder, from the right side, which way is the blade turning, clockwise or counter clock wise?

Like the rest of the attachments, no instructions. What I know I have learned from reading here and by using them.

Now from the posts here I did try to start in the front of the stump but quickly learned that from where I sit I can't see the grinder enough to be that accurate in placement. Quite frankly I gave up trying to start at the front, back or middle of the stump but was happy to just hit the stump anywhere and see chips flying. I don't know if this is unique to the 24 series but placement is basically blind, the machine blocks the view.

At this point I do not think I will reverse the blades. I didn't experience the throwback or debris on the machine as others have mentioned. Again this may be unique to the 24 series. I would be interested in others experiences with the tall machines. I used it on a variety of stumps, some fresh cut, some a year or so old and one well, rather rotted stump that just exploded into a cloud of dust. That was fun!

Standing in front and looking at the machine the right side of the blade turns counter-clockwise and rotates towards the machine.

Maybe you could rig up a mirror.
