I know this subject has been thrown around here alot but Im interested in a backhoe for my 3120 with a thumb.
Can someone point out the best backhoe thats reasonably priced for this unit. I've heard there is PTO driven hoes, 3-point mount hoes, sub frame and all that. what is the best unit?
I'm a bit overwhelmed /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I dont want to make a mistake....

Are you considering the John Deere 447 and 448 backhoes? Those would be very nice on the 3120!! (or my 3320 if I had the need).

I think they may be pricey though bit go on and off very quickly.

I'll second what Mike said on the Deere hoe. Easy on/off is worth a bit more to me. The thumb will be an add on no matter which hoe you get. You may have to shop on-line or at a construction dealer to find one and have it installed (welded) locally /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use a backhoe made by Bushhog, 3PH hook up. I made a rased concrete/block parking place for it and added quick couples to the PTO pump. I can mount the pump and pull the hoses out. Then backup to connect, connect the hoses and I'm done. Ttakes about 5 minutes top hook or unhook from it.

Best solution for me as it'll fit any tractor with a 3PH and not all our tractors are deeres.

The JD 447 is your best bet. It's a sub-frame mount and designed for the 3020 series tractors. A 3pt mounted backhoe is hard on the rear end of the tractor because there is more twisting action than on a sub-frame. As far as thumbs go there are a couple of designers out there for small machines, just ask your dealer or you could design one yourself like I did

1. Only Deere will do. Once you see how they go on and off without affecting ground clearance and are so tight, there is nothing else.

2. If at all possible, get the 448. Sure it only reaches'digs a bit more, but it fits far more equipment than the 447. If you ever want to trade up tractors, it can stay with you. If you go to sell the hoe, there will be many more potential buyers.

That said, I have a 47, and am quite pleased!

Nice Rig !!! JD is blowing me away lately with the twenty series. I'm impressed with the weight of this tractor without the extremely wide rear wheel width.

Nice looking ride , I always like that year falcon and a convertible to boot!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Oh the tractors not bad either /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I really like the new curves on the backhoe, seems the industry is leaning this way at least in the Compacts...
