Stupid battery question?

Farm Pro 2425 uses a NAPa 7237 battery. Knowing box demensions 3 ?

If tractor takes a 670 amp can the starter handle a 850-1000 amp battery?
What is another Battery type from other brand that fits the NAPA 7273?
What is the original v cold and hot amps and size of the chinese battery that is in my tractor, 06 year.

Tried napa and auto zone site. Why do they not have a back door on their sites. They want car year and model. I'm smart enough to understand how to look up a part. Or maybe not!!

(No information on battery before I posted, so I did my homework before asking for help)

The starter does not handle the battery, the battery handles the starter. Get it?

The starter is only going to pull its rated amperage, regardless of what battery you use, (the exception being if its not big enough).

I always use a bigger battery, if it will fit, in every application. You will find it to last longer. Because, as it starts to go south, it will still be rated high enough to do the job.

Yes. That number is what the battery is capable of providing, not what it actually provides. What it actually provides depends on the size/design of the starter. The starter is only going to draw and use what it uses, so it could have a battery the size of cleveland on there and still work fine. It will probably work better with a little added capacity and give faster spinup and start. This is also easier on the battery as a smaller percentage of it's total capacity is drawn during startup.

What you don't want to do is use an undersized battery. This will add a little wear and tear to the starter and cause slower starts. The starters large demand will drastically shorten a too-small batterys life, by trying to draw too large a precentage of it's capacity too quickly.

Don't know if your 670 figure represents cranking amps (CA) or cold cranking amps (CCASA). But I personally consider anything under 700 CA to be insufficient for a diesel - especially if it doesn't have compression release. But you must be talking about an aftermarket battery. Cuz if I recall, mine came originally equipped with about a 900 CA Chinese battery

I would take the dimensions of the battery box and go and find the best battery (in terms of cranking amps/cold cranking amps) I could find that would fit in the box and had the post style of your tractor. I am not sure I have ever seen a battery number cross reference cause as the guys have said going up in output is the best thing to do.

Absolutely go for the biggest that fits the space, as others state, the starter will only take what it needs.

Biggest factor is to remember that when cold a battery will only give a percentage of its capacity so with a big battery you would theoretically always have the amps to drive the starter at optimum rpm's.

Also you will probably pay less for a big one than something specific to your tractor simply because of production volume.
Good example is the battery that is standard to GMC 6 litre diezel trucks as ther are gazillions of those trucks out there.

Also, with your dimensions in hand, go to a volume battery retailer and ask for a deal as often they have a slow mover that they'd be happy to unload and you don't care as a tractor, unlike a car, has space under the hood.
I honestly believe that many batteries are custom designed for the remaining available space in many of today's cars.

Thanks for the help. I am going to have to get a new battery. I actually like to get ones from WalMart. Because if they don't have an auto department service center. They just take the battery back and have you get a new one as long as you have your reciept and it is attached in a small sleeve on the side of it. So every fall I get a new one.

Like a plane crash it's never just one thing. I'm going to have to take out my new Katz lower hose heater. It stopped working. That was why everything was so cold. (I was also outside without a coat) I hate how you know the battery is going bad but every test says it's at 100%. The katz is going back to auto zone. For it's twin.

Don't be confined to getting a battery the size of your battery tray.
If you find a really great battery that is slightly larger than your tray, there's no reason not to modify the tray to accept it. As long as it clears your hood, radiator, air cleaner etc ... whatever is the limiting component. Be sure your straps still hold it in position firmly and that no unwanted contact is made by the battery posts. It's just another improvement modification.

Besides being powerful batteries, the reason I go for the Group 49 and 93 is the low profile. My brand of preference is InterState. WalMart (and other similar) batteries block too much air through the radiator to suit me. And the taller the battery, the more crap gets behind it to foul the radiator fins
