Stupid Ford Trick (low tire pressure alarm)

A place I eat at uses NCR p.o.s. Systems and they have been having problems since Tuesday with p.o.s. Going down during peak dining hours for 30+ minutes at a time, with people on the phone to ncr Tec supt making them run back and forth fruitlessly.

Gotta love that business model...

I got the ProCal programming module. It's handy for re-calibrating the speedo for bigger tires, tuning the TPMS and other things.

AEV Procal Module For Jeep Wrangler Jk
I have the superchips Flashpaq. Allows you to change power programs, lighting systems, gear ratio. / speedo calibration, tons of stuff. A bit pricey at around $400. They have another that is around $125-150 last time I checked, that does just the basics like TPMS and speedo stuff. I have a 2012 jk unlimited. They have others for the TJ's.

I'd read about the Flashpaq on a Jeep forum, but when I checked it out, it didn't list mine as being compatible (nor did the Procal seem to be either). Any idea if either will work with a WK ('06) Grand Cherokee or if someone makes something similar that is? The site you linked to seems to cater to the mud crowd, but this seems like something that would be useful to everyone.

Crew just arrived... giving it another go.

It is now dark and raining and they have been working all day... hoping for a miracle.

Maybe why I am skidish on tech pretty much across the board.

My friends from Germany rented a car and they were on a national park tour and the tps system indicated low pressure... they checked all including the spare... could not find anything... but they were worried and contacted the rental company from the Grand Canyon over the light...

I hate TPMS. One more nuisance item to fix.

Must agree! I have a spare set of rims with winter tires and all they have done was make switching tires more of a hassle and more expensive.

I switch tires all the time for winter on 3 vehicles. Costco does the reset for free.

That would require me driving an hour out of my way for something that I simply don’t need or want to begin with.

I honestly don’t feel It makes me safer on the road at all. What would make me feel safe and I would be willing to pay extra for would be to mandate that all cars be built with some type of device that makes cell phones inoperable while they are in motion. I would also feel better if they took those big screens out as today the dumb driver that ran me off the road was clearly paying more attention to it instead of the highway and it’s not the first time.

I completely agree paulfun9. I just wonder how many more folks will have to die before it's federally mandated. The industry must be really lining the politicians pockets to keep this from happening. On my 2017 BMW R1200GSA motorcycle I have two digital display screens. One for speed, temperature, TPMS, fuel level, and a whole bunch more stuff and another for my Navigator V GPS mapping system.

The moment the cycle is turned on both screens are locked and I can not scroll thru the various readouts that are available. When I first got the bike I had some difficulty keeping my eyes on the road. It was so interesting to watch the various displays as the readouts changed. After a couple close calls - keeping my eyes on the road became a whole lot easier.

One amazing feature on the Garmin Navigator V display. I can ask for the closest location for most anything and the path to get there. Ex - gas station, church, restaurant, parks, roads, intersections, etc, etc - - you get the idea. I called Garmin - fortunately spoke to a female tech - asked how come "bordello" wasn't on the list. A long, pregnant pause - then, "WELL - I guess we never thought of that". It made my day.

Good news his insurance is going to pay for the damage to my trailer. Bad news is My plate is now missing. It was hanging on all twisted up after the incident but seems to have fallen between there and home.
Just drove the hole route on both sides of the road hopping to find it but no luck.

A couple things, my sons 2014 gmc had issues with tires losing air, went over to work buddy's house with tire machine only to find rims are corroding and ruining rubber around the bead, now rims are junk and needs tires also.
My situation with SMTP is I bought both cars new winter studded snows all 4 tires and steel rims. My car the mechanic purchased additional sensors for my car and now has to be reprogrammed every change season. In my wifes car, local shop installed new programmable sensors to match summer tires, so switching to winter tires requires no labor or tire shop to turn light off.
This is what I'll do to my subaru forester this spring, change to programmable sensors and then tire changes will be no trouble anymore.

I was under the impression that the basic method of detecting low pressure on a lot of vehicles is done by the speed censers. If a tyre goes low, that wheel has a smaller circumference, there fore it would go round faster than the wheel on the opposite side, and this would show as a low pressure. Likewise if a vehicle is parked in the sun, sometimes the sunny side tyres would heat up and would be at a higher pressure than the shaded side and may show as a low pressure. After a short ride up the road, all the tyres would heat up, and be the same. To reset a lot of systems, simply, stop, switch the ignition off, and most will reset. Like wise, if a low pressure keeps showing and the pressure shows OK, then check both tyres have the same amount of wear, and as daft as it might sound, they are both the same size.
