Not long after I took delivery of my brand spanking new Kubota L3130.. (my first tractor with a ROPS) I was pulling it into the garage when all of a sudden I heard this horrible wood cracking sound.

I had forgot to fold the ROPS.

Good thing I was going in slowly, but the front end had lifted off the ground and the ROPS had actually angled back enough to slip under the garage door soffet. I used the loader to try to take pressure off, but as I pulled out.. I proceeded to rip several boards out. I have natural pine siding and it took 3 weeks to find the rough cut to match.

the good news? If there is any after such an idiotic move..

The ROPS had two small scratches but was still straight and strong.

Also, I had an excuse to buy a new table saw to cut the lumber down to size. And after a summer in the sun the wood has faded to match the rest of the house.

I now back-in to the garage.

Jerry:

Maybe I don't have enough "juice" in my body for coins and such.

Maybe it has something to do with my age or the fact that I am "drying up" somehow??

I know my wife would agree with the above statement. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, today I back the tractor out of the barn and, while its warming up I raise the ROPS and screw in both bolts. Drive down to the end of my driveway at the bottom of the hill. Turn to head back up and hear a loud BANG right behind my head. Almost jumped over the FEL it scared me so bad. Restart heart. Look back. The ROPS had fallen backward and was sitting at a 90 degree angle. On the ROPS on the B7800 (and probably other models) there is a second set of holes that fit the ROPS threaded bolts that are behind the holes that secure the ROPS in place. I managed to put BOTH bolts through the wrong holes, so the ROPS was just sitting upright and unsecured. When it fell over it landed on the two bolts that were in the rear holes. That's someting I could see doing once to one bolt by accident. But BOTH of them at the same time? How brain dead is that? No damage, fortunately, except to my ego. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

"Almost jumped over the FEL".....? That's a NO NO. Your seat belt (hopefully fastened) would prevent that occurence.

I remember when working at a McDonald's while in high school. It was in the summer and I was helping unload the supply truck at night. To hold the Coke syrup, we had 3 of these 75 gallon stainless steel tanks that hold the syrup. It is a real simple setup, coke goes in at the top and out at the bottom and both ends have the quick disconnects with a small hose running the length of the tank (to tell how full tank is). We always kept all 3 tanks hooked together so we would have to change them. Of course to get the syrup to flow it has to be placed under pressure (air pressure). We were finished and getting ready to leave and I heard a hissing sound and saw some syrup dripping from one of the small hoses. I moved the hose very slightly to which it came loose and started spraying coke syrup everywhere. I'm getting a shower in coke syrup and the manager is yelling at me to make it stop. I'm trying to stop it by removing the air pressure line but it is still spraying. Anyways 10 gallon of coke syrup later, I finally got it stopped. I was drenched from head to toe in coke syrup and it doesn't come off that easily.

Now for a tractor related story.

We were going to take the old Massey Fergusson 135 with the bush hog out to a lot I had bought for some bushhogging. The old man backs the truck up to the car trailer and my brother begins to hook up the lights and safety chains. The old man went to get the tractor. Pulls it up on the trailer, chain her down and jump in the truck. They start up the road and notice my uncle has the brand new buick setting out in front of his house (accross from my parents house). As they start up the hill and pass the buick, all of a sudden the truck gets jerked around. No one put a lock in the hitch and the trailer popped off the ball and snapped one safety chain. The corner of the trailer is pointed straight for the new buick with the only thing holding it is one safety chain (we hadn't put electric brake hook-up on the truck yet.) Trying to find something to chuck the wheel with, finally trailer is chucked and everyone seems relieved until they realized they still have to get the trailer back on the truck with the tractor on it and it is on a hill. start the tractor up and unchain it, then pull up slowly and presto it came down on the stand. I wonder how bad it would have torn that car up if it had ran into it?

Just been there and did that, DANG IT!
I was watching the BH, which needs to be down a bit to clear the 7' door, and forgot about the ROPS. I was all relieved the BH cleared the door OK and was backing in 1st gear, very slow, and heard the cracking. I was panicing and without familiarity with the controls of this new tractor, I was unable to stop as quickly as I should have. I do know the brakes don't work at all agaist the torque of low gear. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Knocked the door frame out of whack. Used the teeth on the bucket, hooked behind the top edge of the door to try and pull it back out, while using a hammer to "nudge" the overlapping boards back over or under each other. Spent about an hour on it in the dark. Got it so the roll down door closes properly but will need more work in the daylight. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
