In between the agony and the ice packs I just wanted to post a reminder to all; Just because your tractor makes it so easy does not mean you can do it too!

Translation: While moving barn timbers on Sunday (about 1000 lbs. ea.) I was trying to push one on to the center of my cart (other end in FEL scoop) and ended up doing a real number on my back/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif . So instead of getting some real work done as mud season starts I am just lying around in agony.

Bummer, Andy! Hope you feel better soon. I've heard, but not verified this, that the vibration of Kubotas at low RPMs is a good cure for back pain.

Sorry to hear that, Andy /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif, but I can relate.

Although I haven't sustained any real body damage yet, I find that since I bought my tractor I've spent more time wrestling with large boulders, logs and implements. I suppose this is where the 4-in-1 or grapple proponents should jump in, but I'm not sure that will save me.

How many of us out there have extended ourselves a tad too far, as Andy did, trying to play human forklift for our tractors? /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Indeed do lay low for a while and let your back mend, for your health is much more important than mud season etc..

The only things I seem to bang up is my right knee cap every now and than..ouch.

Can't really compare horse power to man power when we were young, but age does have its ways of letting one know to back off and turn the key more often.

I feel for you Andy.
I did the same stupid thing with a 3 ft. diameter rock one time. Thought I could just push it onto the stone boat as it came out of the hedge row with the tractor so easy. was to lazy to unhook the stone boat and use the tractor. Boy did I learn my lesson the hard way! Rest and have one for me to dull the pain!

Sorry to hear about your back. That's one miserable experience.......but then you already know that. I hurt my back last summer bending over to pick up a hammer (not as heavy as barn timbers). Got to know a couple of guys named Vicatin and Motrin real well for a couple of weeks. The doctor explained it was improved living through chemistry. Just take it slow and easy and you'll be up and around again soon.

Thanks everyone! Fortunately my wife was able to contact her chiropractor and I was on his table within an hour of the injury. Sometimes the cure feels as bad as the problem but he had me walking straight within 3 days (I kinda was bent over sideways like a birch with too much ice on it). No drugs - just ice every hour and a half.

Inquiring as to what usual triggers are, he replied that in most cases it is something minor - like getting up out of a chair or bending over to reach (a hammer). (i.e. most folks don't go for the massive immediate destruction that I did/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif ). His point was that the body gets set up for destruction over time - things like the wallet in the back pocket, the too soft mattress, yadda, yadda yadda...

This will still take a few more weeks to fully recover from but I've been reminded BIG TIME!

This is why I'm going with a grapple on the loader and a thumb on the backhoe. We dumb humans can't get it through our heads and learn that our hydraulic system (arms, legs) is overdesigned for our light duty frame! My dog's smarter then me, she walks on all fours! I've never seen her lift anything heavier then her soccer ball or a wad of my dirty clothes to carry around and spread all over the house. I've found just light work stresses me and have become married to one of those elastic belts you tighten around your stomach. I've probably injured myself more from pushing junk onto or to the tractor then if I didnt' have the tractor and left it alone!

Learning, but slowly!
