We will be pulling the trigger on a new Forester 2.5i Touring Edition on Friday as long as the weather cooperates. Our dealer is having the exact one we want transferred in from another dealer. I am convinced that the head gasket issues are resolved as of several years ago, and the oil consumption issues were evidently due to a short-lived bad batch of oil control rings, so we are looking forward to a LONG life. Hated to go all the way up to the heavily-optioned Touring model, but that was the only way to get the dual-zone HVAC, which we both really wanted. They also gradually wore me down and convinced me that the EyeSight option was a really worthwhile safety feature.

Great news! Be sure to post some pics.

Heated steering wheel is just as nice as heated seats

I'm sure I could find some sort of work for it.

Carry it for a spare.

It's good to hear that Subaru has fixed the CVT trans. We had a Justy (3 cyl) with the ECVT trans. and my wife was driving in traffic at 55 one day and the tach revved out, but the ECVT did not engage - went from 55 to about 20 before it would re-engage -- dangerous ! That particular Justy was a lemon. The dealer traded us into a year newer $15,000 Legacy for about $1,500 - we are now on our 5th Subaru and Love them.
I've seen tires mentioned in this thread - I WILL NOT own Bridgestone / Firestone tires - we had 4 Bridgestone tires throw belts and go egg shaped by over an inch (all at the same time) They were nearly new and Bridgestone would not honor the warranty. They said we "must have hit pot holes". I have never and will never own a set again.

The "EyeSight" sounds a great safety and convenience feature. I bought a Honda CRV with a similar setup 2 years ago. Although it was expensive at the time, I don't think I would now buy a car without it, even though it has only done the emergency braking once in that time. That once was enough to pay for itself.

Every week we travel miles through a section of road that is in roadworks until 2017, with 50mph average speed check cameras all the way.
The adaptive cruise control makes it so easy to follow other traffic without getting a speeding ticket.

We also run a Forester that is now 12 years old. It has been the best car we have ever owned for reliabilty and is still a pleasure to drive.
Perhaps it is time to have a look at the newer model.

Hope you enjoy your new purchase. Try and stop smiling too much when you feel the seat warm up - it get others drivers worried.

I've had several Legacy models. I hate that you have to pull the inner fender well loose to change the low beam bulb. The high beams can be changed from the engine compartment.

My 2010 Legacy at 150K miles crapped out the CVT tranny. Subaru wanted $8k to install a reman unit. Would not install a used unit. I had to take it to a transmission shop that would install used transmissions.

They are a beast in the snow though with the right tires.

Great thread, timing is perfect looking seriously at a 2015 Legacy , looks like the biggest problem is they are real popular and not many on the dealers lots. Wait times are 6-10 weeks if you order the car! Hoping to buy in June so hopefully the inventory will be better. Have always owned Hondas, should be fun with AWD in the winter.
