Gonna take you a bit of time with a grinder, oh ya.
Mine has a 45 degree angle but anything is better than a square edge.

If you have lots of hp, grinding a point would be a waste no? Like 40-50 hp would pull that no problem. Not sure what machine you have.

I have a Kubota B3030 with RimGuard in the rear tires. The most I've ever pulled was a 60" land plane full of gravel up the driveway. I'll be very interested to try pulling this in the spring.... When it dries up a bit that is.

Even if I can pull his subsoiler the way it is, it seems to me like a bevel on the leading edge of the shank would cause less trauma to the sod in those areas where grass is established.

Here's my question, what would be wrong with grinding the leading edge of the shank to knock off the blunt corners and make the profile look like it's halfway between a V and a U? It seems like it would disturb the sod less and pull easier?

Any thoughts on that, or has anybody tried that?

I've been thinking about doing the same ... I am considering adding a "leading edge" by strapping on a V section. Beveling the front edge with a grinder will weaken the mast in exactly the area of highest tensile stress (the front surface) by reducing the overall cross section and adding a stress riser to the front edge, so I'd like to avoid that. Hitching onto a wrist sized root has stopped me dead and almost put me on the hood, so the forces the mast sees can be substantial.

Another option I've been considering is a coulter wheel ... I'm hoping this would be helpfull when pulling irrigation tubing through the sod in our field.
