The foot is cast. The chisel is steel and held on by 2 bolts. It is reversible.
Where would I get a plow to bolt on?

You can probably purchase the 'shovel' for the middle buster and just bolt it on. Heres a picture. This is a Fred Cain middle buster:

Yes, that's what I was talking about. I would like to get one of these subsoilers that I can also use as a middle buster with the furrow blade put on.

No big deal but with all due respect I don't think thats a F/Cain but a Leinbach.

I believe you are right. I wouldn't want that without any shear pin capability. I've already trashed a TSC subsoiler. I was looking at the FC for that reason. I would also like some versatility to use it as a middle buster with a Furrow blade.

I just got a no-name subsoiler from the local Kubota dealer that has a bunch of new/used stuff out back. It was weathered with rusty hardware but never used. I asked what brand it was and he said, what brand would you like it to be?

I brought it home and found a can of Kubota paint so now I suppose it's a Kubota subsoiler . And I put grade 2 bolts through the shank - thought I'd try it with a softer bolt for starters. Here's my question, what would be wrong with grinding the leading edge of the shank to knock off the blunt corners and make the profile look like it's halfway between a V and a U? It seems like it would disturb the sod less and pull easier?

Any thoughts on that, or has anybody tried that?

I assume you know this but that pic is of the trailing edge.
Nothing wrong with what you are planning. My fc came with a chiseled leading edge.

.....yeah I knew that. The pic was meant to illustrate the new purchase. I guess I was too lazy to flip it over . I assume I can do this with an angle grinder if I'm patient. I'll get on it this weekend. I hadn't seen a Fred Cain model. I should have asked the question BEFORE I painted it. Thanks for the reply.

Gonna take you a bit of time with a grinder, oh ya.
Mine has a 45 degree angle but anything is better than a square edge.

If you have lots of hp, grinding a point would be a waste no? Like 40-50 hp would pull that no problem. Not sure what machine you have.

I would try it before going through the trouble... at least, after you grind it, you'll know what the difference way :thumbsup:
