Subsoiler did I pay to much

It was a very big root. :) Big enough that it snapped the grade 5 shear bolt that I had in the ripper.

Fred Cain makes a good subsoiler but be sure you know where all utlility lines are before you use it.

I think you got a good buy if it was a Fred Cain subsoiler. If it was one of those light ones sold at TSC I'd say no. There are lots of threads where they have bent and broke first time in the ground.

I think you got an outstanding deal. The sub soiler has a shear bolt, the TSC sub soliers do not, or the ones I have looked at didn't have one. A sub soiler will find things under ground that will stop, and stand a tractor up. Not a good feeling to be going along and all of a sudden be looking at the sky. I don't think a lot of people using a sub soiler understand this. You may also have to purchase a shorter top link to obtain maximum use. Now TSC would be the place to buy that. If you lived closer I would give you the money paid for the sub soiler, you would then only be out of the money spent on food and gas for a "Day Trip Outing" with the family.

I would say that it sounds like everyone got screwed.

The seller didn't get what he wanted for the subsoiler.
The wife and kids didn't get to go somewhere interesting to them and lost all day.
You likely paid more than the subsoiler was worth when you add up all the costs.
The waiters/waitresses got screwed with SMALL tips, half of what putting up with kids is worth.

"Everyone got screwed " LOL....Now that is funny !

Two things going on here. First, a roadtrip is good whether you buy something or not, especially with the family. It's a life's lessons thing for the kids and the wife gets some quality time with the kids confined to a known space and you as the disciplinarian. She can veg out and not think. I rarely add the cost of the road trip to the pride of the item for thses reasons.

The subsoiler is the best of the small tractor subsoilers and in that regard, the price was worth it. So you did fine and adding in the family roadtrip it is a good deal.

Roadtrips can yield or not but I have seen lots of the country chasing deals that others may not approve of. So I saw America on the cheap and in persuit of a dream. Works for me.

Any family road trip is a good time to have some quality fun. Always expensive, but always worth it.

If I can get it to post I have a picture of a simple sharp edge I put on my home made sub soil shank.
Actually I didn't make the shank, just the adapter. But can tell you it makes root cutting a lot easier.

Good luck

I went to a farm auction this spring and picked up a 5 row set of JD busters w/ gauge wheels for $400 Thought I'd cut a buster off it off and make a new hitch then sell the rest come out even. Went back to pick it up after auction 6 miles from home. Almost there at 50mph driver side wheel comes of truck. Lug nuts were loose. ALL MY LUG NUTS WERE LOOSE!!! About $3000 in damage to truck nobody hurt though.

400+300 for new hitch still got "THE REST" but at least it will I Match

Attachment are expensive

Truck had a warped rotor on the front and scalloped mud tires pulling a trailer. No more noise than normal. 10 YO farm truck And I was in a hurry it was 4:00 and I had to be there by 5:00 or you wouldn't get loaded
