Sudden smoke problem with 2520

So I went to pay a visit to my 2520 today at the shop getting fixed up. The engine is in about 200 pieces. I saw the bent piston rod that they took out, along with everything else. Talk about 'open heart surgery' !!
The shop foreman figures it'll be at least a week, maybe two before parts come in from the states and they put the machine back together. They're doing all new pistons and new pump at the same time.
Plus I picked up a loaner 4610 with cab home to finish the job I have waiting for me on the driveway at our new place; about 180 yrds of 2" and 4-6" rock I need to flatten before the garage pad gets built.
To say that my dealer is taking care of me would be a gross understatement!!

Wow - that sucks. Atleast it is under warranty. Are they sure they know the root cause of the failure?

Hydro-locked engine and or a high torque diesel starter normally is a recipe for bent connecting rod(s)
Hydro locking also puts significant stress on bearings and the crankshaft. I would request some kind of extended warranty on the rebuilt engine
Sometimes they will actually run on the blow by oil. They won't shut off when that happens.

I am surprised they don't just put a new engine in t. Might be cheaper...

It is pretty nice that the dealer is giving you a loaner. Somewhere on all the tractors my dealer sells, it says something about no loaners for warranty work. I hope I never have to put that to the test.

The 4610 is a strong machine. It made quick work of the gravel piles this evening. I'd say it probably did the work in 1/2 the time. Flattened and graded 140 yrds of 4-6" limestone in approx 3 hrs.
I like the e-hydro and I especially like the adjustable suspension seat!

Hey Gord - catchin' up; been workin' my JD300X lawn tractor so haven't been on in a few days.
Sorry to hear the latest diagnosis... that's a major kick in the butt!!
So, they aren't concerned about the possibility of crankshaft damage and are going to re-piston and re-bearing the engine?
Hmm... maybe it's time for a bigger machine.

OK, got my 2520 back yesterday. They changed the pump, seals, bearings, pistons, etc, but not the crank, which they claim was within spec.
They changed the oils and filters and brought it back and picked up the 4610. They used breakin oil which I need to change in 50 hrs.
I haven't had a chance to use it much yet. They said to give it a try and report back. Let's see what happens.
Didn't inquire about extending the warranty on the drivetrain. Is this something I should be asking for?
