I recently replaced my old 9N with a Ford 1510. When I hooked up the brush hog the front wheels tend to come of the ground sometimes. It has a bar on the front and I am looking for suitcase weights. The question is how much weight do I need? When the front does come up it floats slowly and the back down. There are so many sizes and types plus the cost is really high. I don't want to order more than I need. Also will weights other "Ford" work on this? Thanks for your help. Gary

To help you figure this out most users familiar with this tractor would need to know which brush hog and its weight. Rough ground conditions and slopes would require more than flat smooth ground. More info needed.

Definitely jenkins is right - not nearly enough info to go on.

Did the 9N ever even have a "factory" weight bracket? My guess is what you have is likely homemade, but I am not knowledgeable with Fords so I could be very wrong. If not, fabbing up one designed for round weights and finding weight sets on Craigslist might be a more economical option, or building a ballast box to hook on filled with concrete.

I have a JD 2010 I have run with and without weights bushhogging. I can tell you 100# all the way forward will make a big difference. I presume yours comes up on hills, or if you take off fast? -- Probably about the same as mine or a little worse. I would start with 100#. That might be enuf for confidence. You can hang items on them for extra weight if you need it.

That is exactly my situation Larry. Thanks for the advise. I think that I would start with 100lbs. My 1510 has a factory bar on the front that looks like a lot of the suitcase weights will hang on it. I know the Ford weights are made to lock down with a bolt though. Thanks Gary

+1. Start with a 100lbs. That's exactly what I did. I didn't need more and it did make a difference!

This is actually on a Ford 1510. It looks like a lot of different suitcase weights will hang on the front. The ford weights ate made to lock down with the bolt but I think the others would stay put alright because of the weight.

Yes, they'll stay put unless you do some serious lifting/dropping the front tires. I don't bolt mine on.

Also, almost all brands of AG tractor suitcase weights will fit the same bracket. The method to bolt them is different, along with the size, shape, weight.

As to weight needed, that is totally dependant on tractor size. I'll say this, I use 240lbs on the front of my JD2210 which is a large SCUT. I use 750lbs on the front of my M9540. On the 9540, I'd often like more.
No flaming intended here, if 100lbs fixes your problem, you really don't have a problem. :)

A lot depends on the terrain, too. Up and down hills requires more front weight and traction than flat land.

Same here, my M9540 with the bumper plus 600# is a bit light at times. OTOH, my old M4700 was fine with just 300# plus the bumper.

This Winter I extended my weight bracket so I can add 2 more suitcase weights. Haven't had the brush cutter on yet to try it, but am sure another 210lbs can't hurt. My concern is that my weight stack will be too wide and my front tire might hit the outside ones when fully turned and flexed.
