is there plenty of headroom under the sunshade?

Tom, I don't guess I ever really thought much about it, except when on the rare occasions that I stood up and leaned forward to see over the front end loader for something. I'm between 5' 11' and 6' tall and never bumped my head. Incidentally, here's another picture of my canopy. I later replaced that round rear view mirror with a 4" x 6" rectangular one.

If you have a sunshade mounted on your tractor, your thoughts or observations would be appreciated

I just went out to my L3400 and checked the height. I have the sunshade from the Smart Farmer (very nice sunshade). I am 6' tall and there is no way I can stand up on the operators platform. With the sunshade moved as high as it will go on the ROPS, the height from the operators platform is about 5' 5" at max. Hope that helps.

I have the same canopy as Bird and am very happy with it. It was purchased from my dealer in 2005 and cost was $325. The only issue I had was with a poor job of powder coat allowing rust to form under the paint. I cleaned it up and coated with roll-on truck bed-liner and then repainted. Worked geat. Canopy has held up to several rough encounters with low hanging limbs with no ill effects.

Canopy height is generally determined by ROPS, and some ROPS are higher than others (like TLBs). Even so, I'm 6'2" (on a good day), and I can see over mine when standing...

I may have worded my response poorly. I could not stand up straight under my canopy. But I could stand up to stretch my legs a bit after sitting a couple of hours by bending forward at the waist, or I could stand up and lean far forward to see over the bucket on the front end loader. And that was the only time I was ever concerned about hitting my head on the canopy. Just getting on and off the tractor, even with a hat or cap on, was never a concern.

Thanks guys for the replies. I need to think about it for a while before I install a sunshade. It might be much safer for me to just install an umbrella that I can swing out of the way or wear a hat

It's tough to do some things with no functioning vestibular (balance) system but I pretty much can do most of the things I used to do but bending over and climbing down off the tractor is still tough. I went out in the garage and carefully tried it a few times today.

I lost my balance system because of incorrectly prescribed and dosed antibiotics about 4 years ago. It took me over 2 years before I could walk without a cane but I walk pretty well now. Maybe if I keep practicing bending over as I climb off the tractor I will manage that task too. But I need to practice on dirt so if I fall I won't land on concrete.

I would have liked to go to my dealer and try it on a tractor with a sunshade at the lot but the dealer is located 120 miles from me and I can't drive at highway speeds so I would need to talk the wife into driving me up there. If I told her why I wanted her to drive me up there she'd get pretty angry. She worries every time I try things the doctor and the balance clinics have told me not to do.

The TUFFTOP is designed to allow you to tilt the top up or down so it can be monuted on ROPS that are not vertical. It sits about 1-2 inches above the ROPs and has NO firm/hard edges. I'd lay a 1x4 on the ROPS and support the front of it with a 2x4 (braced by the steering wheel). If you can stand up straight under that 1x4, you will have no trouble with a TUFFTOP. And if it is just a bit short you could still angle the TUFFTOP up at the front a couple of inches to add clearance while entering/exiting.

Sounds like an umbrella might be best for you. Garages and canopies don't always play well together. But, regardless what you may ultimately choose, I would suggest you do as much internet research as possible. Online pics and manuals are extremely helpful. And more thorough than driving around...
