Along the lines of the Pet Peeves, what skeeves you out? What do you avoid just based more or less of a saying, phrase or tradition? I believe at least some of them are old wives tales or a way to teach people about hazards.

Don't walk under a ladder
. Common sense, no? At least be careful or look up. You don't want something to fall on you or bump the ladder and cause anyone on it to fall.

Always go out the same door you came in. Again, probably just so you can be sure the door is locked, or at least closed.

Seven years bad luck for breaking a mirror
. It could take you that long to clean up all the shards out of carpet. (OK, maybe not quite that long, but I've found bits of glass long after I thought I got it all.)

Breaking glass is aways bad, those little shards are good at hiding

Ladders we're used to hang people, you could run into dead person, mirrors in old time were super expensive, list a lit of money if it broke

After eating a meal I always wait at least half an hour before going swimming. Mom said if we didn’t wait we would get muscle cramps and drown!

I never visit tractor by net on a day that ends with a y.

My Mom used to say "Never take a hoe into the house; it's bad luck". I to this day avoid that like the plague, although I really have no incentive to do such a thing. Then there's the old saying "Never let a dog guard your dinner".

Superstition is based on the ignorant faith of an object having magical powers. Another word for superstition is “idolatry.”

"The best way to find something you have lost is to purchase a replacement." Unfortunately that one seems to be mostly true.

Take it one step further when you put it next to the one you couldn't find when you have finished with it.
Opening an umbrella inside, I used to do it at work to dry it out and some of the girls went beserk.
