Sure fire way to keep it from snowing

Well, weatherman says 12 - 24 inches of snow inbound for tonight here in central VA, so I guess it's about time to wake up the old 790, take off the FEL and put on the plow----always a pain in my butt.

BS, I just put a snow plow on my 4310 and I have to swap loader out to put plow on like you.

Mine is fairly easy to swap back and forth' but I was thinking with this Nor'easter coming that maybe the loader would be the weapon of choice to start with. You've had both and looks like you prefer the front blade?

My front blade is 6.5 ft and rear blade is 6 ft. I have a 6 ft high volume bucket that I had been using with good results up til now. Not sure how the front blade will compare.

We only had 1 small snow so far but I noticed when plowing and I angle one way and try and turn in the same direction that the plow would push the tractor away from the desired direction. This was a very heavy wet snow and I didn't have my front chains on yet.
Do you have any trouble or do you have chains?

Check out the attached pic of my snow-clearing set-up.

The front blade works reasonably well. I was a little worried after I flipped my rear tires around that it would mess with the snow removal---that is, my rear tires would be wider than the path cleared by the front blade. This would be similar to having your front tires wider than the FEL when driving into a pile of loose dirt. But, I don't see that as a problem unless the snow is really deep. [OK, let me qualify that for you Northeners. ;) That means more than 8" in Virginia. lol] After all, when the front blade is angled, it has a much narrower footprint than the stock tire set-up anyway.

stlbill, notice I have the 3PH blade on there, too. I tell ya, it does a great job of clearing snow. In fact, I'd say it's better than the front blade. I guess the main difference is that on a gravel road, a rear blade will tear up the gravel, whereas the front blade will float on the skids. Also, I could see situations where the snow was pretty deep and you'd want to clear it out of the way instead of running over it and then clearing it. Otherwise, I think your set-up would be fine.

OK, Brian, you got me. What's the OP?

Nice setup... Front blades are quicker than FEL but have their limitation too sometimes. You'll enjoy

After 25 years of freezing doing this stuff I dont mind getting ribbed for having a heated cab. Long overdue... I really want to clean snow in a Hawaii shirt this year, just for fun...

Take care and have a merry christmas...

Your storm is such a big deal that we are hearing about it here in New Hampshire. It's pretty unusual. Hope everyone has good luck handling it, and there aren't power outages, and such!

Wayne.
Not good way to end autumn nor good sign start of winter..crossing fingers for warmer weather down there.

Thomas: We don't get a snow like this too often, so frankly when we do it is a chance to play and have some fun. There are a lot of dumb A--'s around here that think that since they have 4 WD they can go anyplace... They forget their brakes are no better than a car. We stay off the roads and home. This is a great excuse to play with the plow on the 4400 and drive around in the woods with the RTV!!!!

If we lose power, that's even better, my onan needs to run!

We'll post some pics later.

Back when I decided to stop using my 380 front blade because it is such a PITA to change over from the FEL, I ordered a rear blade with skid shoes. Works same as skids on the front blade.

Very white out, looks like we're really going to get to use the plow this year!

JD, I can see how the skids would make all the difference....you ever use them in dirt?
