Re: Surprising Results When Trying to Buy a B2910 HST - Final Outcome
First off, I want to thank everyone for their helpful responses and welcoming me to TBN.
However, the main reason I am reposting to this thread, is that I apparently got off on the wrong foot when it comes to a respected supplier, and that is the Carver Equipment folks. I want to forthrightly state that in no way did I intend my first post to TBN to be interpreted as my casting negative comments towards Carver. I really was only questioning the shipping charge (which still seems high to me ... but I have to again admit, I have had no experience with such things). I had thought I was actually quite complementary of Carver in my original post, by indicating that their discount pricing was "amazing" and that they were the only Internet based company that actually provided a quote after sending requests into three different firms. I also did not feel that my mentioning the shipping charge was any real breach of confidentiality, as I interpreted that as a charge being passed on to me by a trucking company through Carver. In any regard, at this point, I want to make it clear that my post was not intended to slam Carver or to inappropriately disclose any information they may have deemed to be confidential. In fact, Carver has lived up to much of the very positive things that I read about them on this board ... in that they have been very responsive to my requests, provided a comprehensive quote in timely fashion, and have provided good overall customer service and helpful information.
And as some have mentioned in their posts (as well as a response from Steve Carver on the shipping cost issue), there are fuel costs to consider, ... my location is far from Carver, ... my locale is in the Rockies zone which represents higher shipping costs, ... and of course, the trucking guys need to be able to make a living as well. So, while I still think that the shipping cost is "high", I nevertheless accept it as fair.
In any case, just to let folks know, I have decided to purchase the B2910 HST and some implements from my nearest retail Kubota dealer (in southwestern Colorado). It's too bad that I could not take advantage of the superior pricing from Carver on the basic tractor and loader, but the magnitude of the associated shipping charge skewed the overall deal in favor of the local dealer (even though his prices were surely not as attractive in comparison ... with the possible exception of some of the implements, and of course, little or no shipping costs involved). However, I am very comfortable with the dealership, their personnel, their customer service attitude, and a perceived ability to develop a long-term service relationship with them ... and these things certainly have value in their own right (at least in my opinion). And since they are in Colorado and I am in Utah, there will be no sales tax. I was also able to negotiate a somewhat better overall deal (and NOT by using Carver's quoted pricing), so I am happy enough.
Anyway, thanks again for all of your great input and suggestions, and I hope no one else misintrepreted where I was coming from to begin with. I will no doubt be posting further and bugging you guys about my new tractor (boy, that does have a nice ring to it, now doesn't it?). Have a good weekend everyone.
