Last year we built a 40x72 pole barn, concrete floor. Can't believe how full it is already. Should have added the extra 8 feet to length, but started with a plan at 30x50, so I'm content.

Something odd has happened to me. I find it oddly satisfying sweeping the floor. Me? Sweeping..... Tractor comes in and out, UTV in and out, tracking up my clean concrete floor.

I find myself worrying while at my new "secret get-away" that my wife could show up and see me enjoyably sweeping the floor, much more often than the cabin, or at home. There cannot be a worse task at those two places than sweeping, well ok, painting is worse.

Is it using the contractors broom stored there that makes the difference? I haven't yet bought a large industrial dust pan, but E-gads, I'm thinking about it. What if I start asking people to use a coaster for the cold brews in the ol' pole barn?? I trust this will wear off.........

Sweeping? That's what they make leaf blowers for!

Nothing wrong with it. If you buy a shovel instead of a dust pan, it'll feel more manly. :)

Egads, leaf blower? I guess if you chain smoke unfiltered camels...you must like having everything coated in a fine layer of protective dust.

If the floor is polished smooth then get a big bad shop vac. Better than getting farmers lung breathing in dust from sweepings and leaf blowers.

I use a blower to blow my garage out. It does put dust all over the place but it is fast and no dust pan needed.

Same here, leaf blower makes short work of an unwanted task. I do have 12' x 12' doors on both ends and a 10' x 12' on the side, so I get a good breeze through the my 60' workshop. And if more directional wind is needed, I turn on my 36" floor fan. That keeps all the dust going one direction, i.e. out.

I have a lot more things I want to get done rather than sweeping, so the less time it takes, the better. Of course, to each his/her own.

I do a fair amount of wood working in my shop and I end ever day by sweeping my floor. It's a relaxing way to unwind from all the thinking involved in building stuff. My mind slows down and it's a nice transition from all the math that goes into where to cut a board and stress of getting it right the first time, to relaxing with my wife and dogs.

Curious what you do about mosquitoes being that close to so much water?

Mostly, you just learn to live with them. Maybe with all the years I've spent on the water and in the woods, I'm a couple quarts low as they don't seem to bother me much. There is some truth to skeeters liking some people more than others. They bug me right at dusk when they're thick, but other than that I don't seem to notice them. Although this year was odd, we had tons of rain, and the mosquitoes were low in numbers. My theory is the rain may have kept the sloughs cooler, maybe? I don't know. I'm sure they'll make up for it next year.

I love doing sweeping. It is very relaxing and usually I'll find the thingy that got lost. :) I do the sweeping pattern differently each time. Its like raking a Zen sand garden?

I have about 2000sf of concrete that I blow with a leaf blower, it would take me forever to sweep it. With the mosquito problem I take a garlic tablet once a day between April and October, it has no order and keeps both the mosquitos and ticks off of me. I know it works for some people and not for others, otherwise use 50% deet insect spray. :confused3:
