Sweet Home built BX Tractor Cab

/ Sweet Home built BX Tractor Cab #31
This is an excellent thread to bing back for the start of winter!
I had never seen this cab, it is a fantastic home build!!

After contemplating what it would take to build even a modest cab, this one surpasses anything I have dreamed of.

I suppose lexan could be used all the way around? The molding is an available product, all the RVs use the stuff.

The angles on the cab and the radius corners in the lexan make this a top-shelf cab.

That is a great job, I was looking at aftermarket but i could probably build it cheaper. Is the heat just air from the engine or is there a radiated heater?

The engine is mounted in reverse so the fan actually draws air in through the screen below the steering wheel. There was a plate on the bottom side of the tractor he removed so air could be drawn from underneath and not thru the now enclosed cab area. He covered the intake screen from inside the cab, now monitoring the engine temperature to be sure it was getting enough air to cool and not overheat. He used a small 12volt heater from Harbor Freight and mounted it on the ceiling at the top of the front window. Enough heat to keep the front windshield from fogging up, though not enough heat to plow in shirt sleeves.

This is excellent! I'm looking at doing something similar for my jx95.

Awesome cab!!!! Motivates me to try something like this.

Not knowing anything about the engines used in the BX series, I wonder if they have water jacket plugs that could be utilized to plumb a water heater in the cab??

Again, great job, kudos to the builder!!!!

They do, I know you can install a block heater on them in one of their plugs.

I was even wondering about a simple fan forced, exhaust manifold heater?

The BX sucks air from the cab area, and pushes it out the front, that is the only down-side, it would be like having an exhaust fan running sucking the air in the cab through the engine compartment.

But, still, beat the wind and snow in your face!!!

This Cab is a great thing. If I lived further north, I'd really be looking at one of these for a project.

That is fine work.

Seems like the JC Whitney catalog used to have auxillary heaters that circulated hot water from the radiator and had their own 12v fan.

J.C. Whitney and others have those auxiliary heaters. Look under the Jeep section for them.
