I was interested in your comments about Aeroshell oils. From what little I could find on the Shell site, it appears that their 15/50 Aeroshell oil is a synthetic blend. Is that correct? They also appear to have a full synthetic for use in diesel engines, and specifically state that it is not to be used in spark combustion engines. Why would that be the case?

We do not recommend using aftermarket oil filters in our engines, if the failure of the engine will be caused by improper oil filter, we will dispute the warranty.

"" airoshell that was made for four stroke air cooled airplanes "" /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Airoshell is specifically designed for the unique operating conditions found in four stroke air cooled airplanes!! Why not use a high quality synthetic oil such as Amsoil which is specifically designed for the unique operating conditions found in four stroke terrestrial engines??!!??

"" i use mobil 1 5-30 in my 422 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer ""

Since the first number refers to Winter viscosity, and the second number refers to Summer viscosity, there is no reason to change from 5W-30 to 10W-30 because the Summer number is the same!!
Amsoil 0W-30 gives superior protection and easier cranking Winter and Summer!!

Concerning Warranty, check out Warranty Law !! A manufacturer can NOT require the use of his maintenance parts if quality after market products are available!!

But we can deny the claim if we determine that the failure was caused by the aftermarket parts. It also reffers to the LP conversion kits.

airoshell was not a syn. or blend. go to the airport and check it out. they been using it for years.they may have something better now.i don't have a way to get that oil any more. so now i have the 422 i use mobil, check your wear chart 5-30 is the one right below your oil /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have never seen, or heard tell of, oil filter "failure"!!

I have a 29 year old Kohler engine in my tractor that runs nicely without so much as a whiff of blue smoke, and that engine doesn't even have an oil filter, or an oil pump, for that matter!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I haven't seen any failures caused by oil filter either and I'm glad your Kohler works like a charm. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You need to compare apples to apples, but you are right!! Using Mobil One 5W-30 only produces twice the wear of Amsoil 0W-30!!!!

So, you save money two ways with Mobil One!! First, it only costs half as much per quart! Second, you only need to buy half as much over the life of the engine because the engine life may only be half as long!!!! What a deal!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Nothing Outperforms Mobil 1? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey Fourteen,

I appreciate all the information on Amsoil and have done a lot of reading and looking at other forums as well as asked our company mechanic about these products. I am convinced that I want to baby my PT 425 and put the best liquids in her as possible. I would like to request your knowledge or guidence in the right direction as I;ve liked everything you've said. What Amsoil oil filter do you use?(Specifically part #). What Amsoil Air filter do you use, Hydraulics? How many quarts. I also see they sell fuel filters. Any experience with them? Thanks for all the recommendations. John Sargeant
