I have a large amount of metal T fence posts to pull and want to use my front loader to pull them out. Has anyone done that and can you tell me how you did it? Thanks

Well IF we are thinking the same thing here about the posts (the kind for cattle fencing in our area) just wrap a chain around it and pull the chain up with the FEL works wonders.

I've used a chain. Wrapped it around the bottom of the post twice. Hooked it to the bucket of the tractor and lifted up. A couple of posts we had to reposition the chain a little lower again as it did slide up a little.

Mrmoto, how many posts are we talking about. A hundred or more? There is a tool that is used with a hi-lift jack to pull metal posts. If the number of posts is big enough you might want to look into welding something like that to the bucket.

Pull the T post from the top and it keeps them straighter. I have a T post bracket that is simply a piece of flat steel with a cahin attached. An oversize "T" is cut in it. It slips over the top and a chain hooks to it. When you pull it up with the loader, it cocks and grabs the post and will not slip. It's fast, easy on, easy off. When you lift with a loader and it won't budge, lower the loader down and use the bucket curl. You will deliver more pull power.

I have pulled T posts by raising the bucket over the post, wrap the chain around the post several times close to the ground, lower fel with the back of the bucket close to the post, and then hooking to the bucket and lifting it out. I have done this with a L402 fel because it had more lifting power behind the bucket than in front. I live in mid missouri where there are rocks and a little dirt to sometimes hide them.

Northern Tools sells a metal post puller for fairly cheap. I bought one about 2 years ago and use it often. It works well and does not bend the posts. You could probably use this and be quicker than using your tractor. Either way you would have to hook up something to the post. Then just use your tractor and FEL to carry the posts.

Like the others, I've pulled lots of them with the FEL; just wrap a chain around twice, hook it to the bucket and lift it out. It's especially fast and easy if you have two people; one to handle the chain and the other on the tractor. I did encounter ONE t-post I could budge, dug around it a bit and found a very large tree root (about 6" diameter) had grown completely around the post. That one must have been there a long time.

Thanks for the tips. I only have about 40 to pull so I think I will try using the front loader.

The last time I tried pulling some T posts I ran into one that wouldn't come out. I pulled with the FEL, then I put a chain on it and pulled upward, this way, that way, no luck. Then I pushed it over one way and then the other. It finally broke off about a foot underground. I'd hate to move 100 of those.
