T1-11 VS. smart siding?

Just my two cents, but I prefer vinyl over OSB. Make sure you get all the manufactures tips on installing both the misc. pieces, like J-channel and not nailing the siding too tight. I think you'll find it cheaper or right around the same price as your other alternatives.

Duane, that means i would be screwing the lip to the metal siding, would that hold?

You could also run the metal siding up to the rough openings of the windows/doors, then set the windows/doors over top of the siding. No one sees any jagged edge and with a "little" caulk, no one is the wiser.
Of course I would put the J-channel on first, then the siding. But that is just for the type of J-channel I'm used to seeing/using

Make sure you hit some solid wood behind it. You should be able to hit some of the web members of the roof truss. If not put some scabs on the inside to have something to screw into.

ok, can i go ahead and put the siding on, right up to the RO ofe the doors/windows, and then worry about the J-channel or molding or whatever i use or do i have to do something with it before i put up the siding? Trying to get this in my head how this is going to work before i set out to start on it..

Built my cabin using OSB smart siding. I would not hesitate to use it again in Northern Missouri. It is also treated to resist wood eating insects. Only hard thing is driving nails through it. Hard resilient stuff.
