Hey everyone, Im in the market for a new logging winch. I’ve got an old Norse 3081 winch and it’s been great but I’m looking for something new. Locally ive got farmi, fransgard, wallenstein and tajfun available within a reasonably close distance. The farmi JL351p and the equivalent wallenstein are both a little out of my price range. I really like the fransgard V3507 and V4000 winches especially the size of the dozer blade on the back of the V4000 which would be great for back dragging ruts but the cable length is the big draw back. The Tajfun EVG35a hits my price point, has 230ft of cable and a lot of nice accessories. The big drawback is the dozer blade portion is pretty narrow and there seems to be only one distributor here in the state of Maine. So I guess what I want to know is who has one of these tajfun EVG35a winches and what do you think of it overall. I will be putting it on a kubota L3901.

Personally, I'd pay the extra and get the Farmi or Wallenstein...

Sawmill magazine had a review on them years ago, and gave them a lot of praise. One thing which they stated is different than a Farmi or a Fransgard is the brake; rather than a ratchet, it has a friction brake just as on a commercial skidder. I've owned both Farmi and Fransgard and while they both were older units I couldn't see a lot of difference between the two.
I now have a Uniforest Uniforest Skidding Winch 35M Tractor Attachment and while I haven't used it much it seems to be a solid unit. They are 3K including shipping from New York.

Thing is, I prefer the ratchet brake...

It never wears out, is absolutely positive, will take more abuse, and just plain works and just plain last!!

I have the Tajfun Model EVG45a logging winch. I purchased it used several years ago. So far it has been problem-free and has performed well snaking firewood and aspen saw logs from the hilly terrain of our woodlot. The selling price was good and I have no regrets in its purchase. It appears to be well-built.

That said though, having dealt with the relatively local Farmi dealership on a used Valby chipper, I would appreciate having access to that same level of support for the Tajfun winch. The operating manual is not well-written, and in routine maintenance where I had questions, answers were not always readily available. If I were purchasing new, a Farmi model would be my choice.

I bought a EVG 35A new and have used on my L2800 for 6 years. I have worked it hard. Would definitely buy the Tajfun again.

The ratchet in my Fransgard was prone to disengage, usually at the worst possible times.
It had been used hard though, which could have been the reason.

The one on my Wallenstein is absolutely positive! I don't believe I'll ever be able to wear it out in my life time, no matter how hard I use it!!

I can't comment of Fransgard quality, I'm more of by the better product guy, even if it cost more.

I am looking at the same 35m WINCH... also have the same tractor..... can you tell me if the pto connection is aligned with tractor (thinking left /right not up down) or is it offset?

thanks in advance

I’ve also been interested in the uniforest 35m. That was actually my initial choice but the closest dealer is in New Hampshire, about 2 hrs away.

It's offset. Standing behind the tractor and winch, it's to the right of the tractor PTO shaft.

As I mentioned earlier, you can get one from Hud-son in New York for about 3K including shipping. When I was shopping I would have preferred a Fransgard and at the time there was somebody in Vermont who was selling them for a comparable price; but I got tired of them not returning my calls so I bought a Uniforest.

I have a tajfun 35 on a kubota 4310 the winch is great I got the remote switch with it you just clip on your belt.i can hook the cable to my four wheeler (my woods are all very hilly)and pull it down through the woods then hook it to a log hit the button on the remote to start pulling and ride the four wheeler back up the hill following the log being pulled by the winch. I can't say nothing bad about it. The dealer is local that's one reason I went with it I have never looked at any others so I don't really know the others. There probably like tractors some this color and that color but all do a good job all in your preference hope this helps

I’m definitely leaning towards the tajfun EVG35a winch. The EVG45a would be nice but a little overkill for my tractor.

There's something to be said for buying local. (Even though in my case that means 2 hours away, to the nearest tractor place.) When you get it post some pictures of it in action, and let us know how you like it.

I live just down the road from you in Bowdoinham. I've had the Tajfun 45a for 4-5 years now and love it. I had a smaller Fransgard before it and loved that too, but I think the Tajfun is a better winch. If you want to come down and check mine out, just let me know (text me 207-eight three one, 5718).

Bought the Tajfun EVG35a earlier this year for my tree service and its one of the best investments I've made. Been setting up a 4:1 or 8:1 with snatch blocks and pulleys and its amazing what you can do with it. Able to notch and drop leaners instead of climbing to take weight off the side of the house first. Also using it on the farm for logging and pulling 6" trees out of the ground when cutting trails (just double wrap a chain around the base of the tree and it comes right out).

Things I don't like - Wish the blade would bite better on uneven ground. It will pull the tractor back if you are on a hump and don't get a good bite. Offset PTO has been frustrating to get on and off. Found it best to unhook 3pt and pull forward a little to straighten the PTO up first - same in reverse for install.

I really appreciate that feedback about the PTO.
