Take Down - Put back up.

I was wondering (before I start this project pretty soon) if anyone has ever "taken down" a pole barn?

I know many have put them up, but I am about to embark on taking one down, transporting and then reassembling.

It is 30' X 40' (about 14' at the eaves).

It has a 24' X 24' pole barn attached to the back of the 30' X 40'.

It is about a year old, and the price was to good to pass up!

The larger building has a 10' X 12' (approx.) roll up door in the front, and one service door on the side.

The smaller has a sliding 10' X 10' (approx.) door, and one service door.

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions to make this project go quickly and smoothly? (Yes, I could contract it out, but I am afraid they would not be as careful as I will be.)

Also the metal siding is nailed (with rubber washers) not screwed.

The roof is shingle, but no big deal, the current owner is providing a dumpster.

I will try and post some pics soon.

Thanks for any and all suggestions, comments, tips, or anedotes.

I tried to salvage the tin off an old barn on our property. Unfortunately the poles were hedge. I finally burned the barn down and sold the scrap. I would spend about 5 minutes working the nail out far enough to nip the head off.

I finally decided that buying new tin was cheaper than carpal tunnel surgery.

I also found out that you might as well invite all the neighbors and the fire department over before you burn a barn down. Even if you call dispatch ahead of time and try to be discrete, they are all coming over anyway.

That's hilarious!

We cut a 24X24 in half, jacked up the halves one at a time with 4 farm jacks, set the half on an equipment trailer, moved it to the new site, re-set it there. Gusseted all the trusses at the cut points, tied it all together with 2X6 & 2X10, braced it well. No torquing or matchboxing. Two man job; a little time consuming for all the prep work. the major benefit was not having to pull the nails to remove the steel. Your building is larger and more complex, but it is doable.

I want to thank everyone on here again for all your great input.

It is very interesting to see the clever ways people have in attacking a project like this.

Please keep the info coming! I have enjoyed it, and I believe others probably have also.

Unfortunately for me, it looks like the man who was going to sell me the pole barn is backing out of the deal.

I am not sure why, I can only speculate.
1) He has had someone come up with more money for the barn.
2) Something shady is happening behind the scenes (foreclosure?).

So, I have been back online to see if I can find another deal.

Thanks once again for all the help and input, it has been interesting.
