It seems that Florida understands, we've been there & just today I have helped several customers make final preperation to leave for the Gulf Area. Some were pulling air boats for search & rescue, some church groups had van trucks loaded to supplies. The help is comming but many fear the help will be too soon. When the water was rising how would the help get to the people. Now it looks like the help can do some good.

How about TBN, after S&R is complete maybe we should organize a TBN group to bring equipment and our time to help with the clean up. Trash needs to be moved from the streets so operations can proceed. I'll give a week, we just need confirmation that we can do some good. Someone needs to give us direction as to what needs doing first....

( My wife said this to me this morning. "Where are all the other countries that we help out when they have disasters? )

After the floods of '93, when we were rebuilding the arena that I work in, a group of carpenters from the Ukraine arrived to help.
It turned out that they had volunteered to come over, because the US (and Iowa in particular) had helped their area after some natural disaster years before.
The Farm Bureau or some similar group had worked out the details of getting them here.

(The humerous part is that they arrived three months after the flood, so we were almost done with rebuilding and had to scramble for something for them to do. They were amazed at how fast we had cleaned up the place....they said it would have taken years to do the same thing over there)

The point is, the offers of help will come (some probably have...they just wouldn't get air time when the media can cover the aid coming from within the country) but the reality is, no other country would be able to mobilize as fast or on the scale that the US can.

You know.... I just don't know what to think about this terrible national disaster. I only wish I had more to give to these people who have lost all. I have no ideal how it is to lose everything like they did. I have lost a home by flood waters. However... they just lost everything with jobs, places to stay dry, safe and free from disease. I Thank God for what I have and Pray that God will give them the strength to get through this.

I will probably be slammed for saying this but, Dare I say that maybe that God allows things like 911 and diasters to happen to this country because he is trying to get our attention. Seems like we as Americans take so much for granted. As Americans we have forced God out of our lives like taking the "Ten Commandments" down from public places. Taking prayer from schools, talk of taking "In God We Trust" from our money and much more. Then when things like this happens... we call on God to help. I am just as guilty as anyone... sometimes I don't do the things I should and get away from God's will. He quickly brings me back but with consequences. I fear God is trying to get a message to all of us, and we aren't listening as a Nation.

This is not what I call a civilized country. These people are ruining people lives and thier stores or what's left of them.

I, as well, will give a week of my labor to help. I unfortunately do not have a tractor right now as mine is in the shop. But I will help anyway I can. Maybe operate a tractor donated to help by a dealer or something.

Jim57, I said that to my wife tonight too. I wonder if it is a big wakeup call.

The UK and Germany have offered to provide aid to the US. France said they would provide assistance, if asked. I am sure there are other countries that have offered and we will most likely not hear about them.
Something this massive and disastrous will not have a quick response or fix. The rescuers are human. Some have to travel a long way to get to the disaster. They get tired, hungry and have to be fed and sheltered. The logistics just for caring for the rescuers is huge.
The looters have always been there, but were kept in check by the "thin blue line" (police) that some people despise. You now have an example of what will happen when the thin blue line is broken. Pray for the victims and do what you can to help.

I think what is needed most is a way to get people out of there and a place for them to stay for a while. I'd take a family into my home myself if we didn't live in only 880 square feet.

While many may talk about the price of gas or diesel, I just don't see it being the first topic of discussion.

At one point last night, there were more threads on TBN on the price of gasoline (in 3 different forums) than on hurricane Katrina. I'm not singling out TBN members, because the number one topic at work yesterday afternoon was gasoline prices.

The nation and the economy must go on.Fuel is a huge factor of the economy and if the gas prices get too high for too long it could kick us into a recession.Cant see that helping with efforts in the gulf.If you feel so bad and want to help, grab a broom and shovel and start pushing instead of whining about whiners.
